Publisher's summary

A riveting story unfolds as past and present crimes entwine.

A 17-year-old case comes back to haunt JR Steele, a semi-retired private investigator. The Army veteran and former police detective has been working as a gunsmith, trying to get by. The blonde who walked into the gun shop yesterday asking for his help is now dead. Death and destruction force him back in the game. But is he still up to the task?

Powerful and ruthless people with connections way beyond Steele’s Florida county don’t want what really happened 17 years ago to see the light of day and they are willing to kill to stop it. Steele is spending as much time trying to keep himself and the dead woman’s gorgeous cyber-smart daughter alive as he is solving this riveting case.

Steele is determined to get to the bottom of things. The clues are there somewhere — he just needs to uncover them without getting killed. But the body count keeps mounting. The dead blonde has awakened a sleeping monster who employs merciless killers to keep old secrets buried. Fortunately, Steele has friends of his own that aren’t afraid to operate on the gray side of the law.

This edge-of-your-seat suspense novel introduces unique Florida characters listeners will never forget in a spellbinding tale.

I liked the characters and the back story.

I liked the characters and the back story. The only problem some of the timeline for events — my hubby is a cop so I know how long it takes to clear certain events, and it’s not as quick as what happens in the book. But if you or your spouse are not cops, then its a great audiobook!

I highly recommend this book

I highly recommend the book, and suggest that you stick with it through the beginning where the tone comes across as dreary and whiny. It more than pays off for your patience in the end.

Classic Detective

Ok, so I wasn't sure whether the author should make his living as a trivia contestant or as a writer sometimes. The story is bogged down with a lot of history and facts. That said, the story is FANTASTIC if you like a well-written, classic detective story. The protagonist is just the sort of "cynical, blur the lines occasionally" PI that you would expect. I loved the strong, supporting female characters throughout. Great story. I definitely recommend this book if this is a genre you enjoy.

I Recommend It

I don't think I have ever read a book that was so full of twists, turns, and surprises. I really enjoyed this book. It was a thriller from beginning to end.

Enjoyed this book

enjoyed this book, but it doesn't have a regular ending. This is true for the successive books in the series. Be prepared to continue buying the series! It is a good cozy mystery of assumed identity.

Excellent Author

I found this book to be entertaining from start to finish. It keeps you in suspense the whole way through, and finishes with a surprise ending. I think this author has a brilliant career ahead of her writing this kind of genre. Keep 'em coming!

A Good Mystery

I enjoyed the characters and the gritty scenes that played out. The descriptions made you feel like a part of you are in the story. The characters are flawed but still seem normal. I recommend this book to all who like a good mystery.
