Publisher's summary

I came to Whispering Key for a job. That was all. To show the world Mason Bloom could be more than a small-town doctor living a medium-sized life.

Private doctor on a swanky island with a posh resort? Check.

But from the moment I set foot on this island, nothing went according to plan.

I didn’t expect to find the resort falling apart. I didn’t expect the people here to be so charming and crazy and welcoming and real. I didn’t expect legends about shipwrecks and buried treasure. And I definitely didn’t expect Fenn Reardon, the island’s incredibly attractive, incredibly infuriating, incredibly male resident tour guide, to become the one person I can’t live without.

Thirty-five’s a bit late for me to realize I'm not straight, though, right? And I have big dreams that won’t fit on Whispering Key, anyway - dreams that do not include tying myself to a tiny island stuck in the past or to a man who refuses to think about the future.

My head’s telling me I have to leave Whispering Key...My heart’s telling me there might be treasure on this island after all.

It Is A Decent Book

A bit long winded for my taste, but I overall enjoyed it. A good and very thorough story with a lot of detail. Excellently narrated.

So much fun

This is not for you if you’re bothered by F bombs, but otherwise it’s such a fun and romantic story.

Amazing start to a new series

Look, I laughed out loud, I straight up cried (not because anything super emotionally taxing happened, but because I’m a big ole sap), and even when there were tears, I was pretty much smiling throughout the entire book! The setting of this new series is much like O’Leary (which I personally adored), but with new weirdo busybodies who you can’t help but love (if I don’t get a Beale story there will be RIOTS). I LOVED Fenn and Mason. They’re interactions are hilarious, and while this book wasn’t full of sex scenes (not to say there wasn’t some incredibly steamy scenes, there just wasn’t an abundance), you could feel their chemistry and when they came together it was amazing and so very full of love. My literal only complaint was that we didn’t get to see Fenn meet Micah and Constantine. I neeeeed that. All the stars, all the recommendations, I already want the next in the series. Michael Dean’s narration was a joy to listen to and I think he was a wonderful choice for this series.

Hilarious 5 stars

I don’t remember when I’ve laughed so much throughout a book. This was my first May Archer book but definitely won’t be my last. Maybe sarcasm is not for everyone, but I loved it. Michael Dean did an excellent job of catching the subtleties and nuance, which kinda blew my mind but it’s what made the story and characters really come to life for me. Great job, and highly recommended for lathe laughs and love throughout.

Cute, well worth a listen

Good narration lifted the story. Would have liked it to spin the treasure mystery story more and explore some of the personalities more, but still a nice feel good lovestory.

Fantastic

Another great book by May Archer. Can’t get enough of Michael Dean voice reading this book. Enjoyed getting to know all the new quirky people May has come up with. Very funny, loving and family dynamics. I would highly recommend if you love any one of those things. A hint of buried treasure too.

If you love O'Leary you'll love Whispering Key

I loved reading this and Dean really brought the Island to life perfectly and made this a great listen. If you thought nothing could get crazier than O'Leary you were wrong.

Intensely romantic

SPOILER ALERT (kinda). This book has NO HOOK in the first two chapters. You will have to PLOD through the first two chapters to get to the hook where the characters actually begin their journey. But, if you get past those first two chapters, your patience will be richly rewarded.

Further, at some points in the story, it seems Fenn and Mason have too many character flaws (unsure, unambitious, unreasonable insecurities...) but it all works out in the end. What I'm trying to say is that if you just keep going, the story does end well. One more caveat: The requisite lover's misunderstanding(s) that Fenn and Mason have, sometimes seem a bit TOO convoluted and forced (just for the sake of requisite conflict). Yet, that too makes more sense (or at least they're easier to overlook) if you just keep going.

This sounds like a negative review, but I have to say I really enjoyed the story. I recommend this to those who are willing to work for their HEA.

Michael Dean's narration is the best I've heard him do; in other works he's seemed a bit off-character, but he redeemed himself on this one.
