Publisher's summary

Breaking up with your high school sweetheart is one thing.

Breaking up with Hollywood’s favorite actor? That's an entirely different situation.

I’d been in love with Aiden Walters since I was a little girl. We’d grown up as neighbors in small town Wisconsin. I knew him inside and out, and he knew every single piece of me. I was there when his career took off, and I was almost certain I’d always be a part of his life.

It wasn’t until a scandal broke out that I was forced to end things with Aiden. He didn’t take it very well. The boy I once loved began to hate me. He went off to California, leaving his entire past behind—including me.

Five years later, he's back in town for a few months to care of some family business. He's staying in the only hotel in our small town—the hotel I now oversee. For the next few months, I’ll be forced to cater to the man whose heart I broke all those years ago—a man who resents me, a man who swore he would never speak to me again.

Now that he's back in town, in constant proximity to me, I have to keep reminding myself daily why I ended things with him in the first place. Otherwise, I'll find myself falling in love with him all over again. Only this time, I'm certain that, if I do fall, he won't be willing to catch me.

Wow, what a performance! What a story!

I am a fan of Brittainy Cherry’s books. This is the first time I’ve listened to the audio version. I really appreciate the talent of the narrators, they were both excellent. I am now a fan of Nicole Small and will consider buying the books she narrates.

So many issues

This book dealt with many of life’s issues and it was presented in a way to hold my interest. Narrators did a good job with characters. Despite the many issues presented, there was some humor sprinkled throughout.

Trigger Warning

Woof, this was triggering. I mean, it’s whatever, I was able to enjoy it nonetheless, but for those who need to avoid their triggers, you’ve got bullying/eating disorders/body image issues focused on a good amount. I wasn’t ready for it.

Brittainy Cherry is officially my favorite author. She’s a MASTER at her craft. This was another winner. I’ve yet to find of book of her’s I didn’t love.

Aiden and Hallie are very likable characters and both have strong personalities that aren’t defined by their romance. They’re just so real and relatable. Hallie more so than Aiden, but still. Both were easy to root for. Both were perfectly flawed. Lots of drama! I couldn’t put it down.

The middle was a bit annoying, but that’s what happen when people don’t communicate openly so it was just part of the plot. I also am so over the kids and marriage make a HEA trope. Blah.

Narration was inconsistent. Both are talented and pleasant to listen to. Sometimes their reading was on point with the tone and emotion of the characters. Sometimes it was flat. But all in all, an above average performance. I’d listen to them both again. Oliver does an excellent female voice.

I recommend. If you like BC’s other books, no reason you won’t like this.

Wow

This is a lovey and poignant story. I read this series and decided to try the audible and they did not disappoint. The narration was spot on in all the series. The compass series as a whole is brilliant story telling with a HEA.

It could have been sooooo much better, sigh

This is a story of childhood friends, next door neighbors who fall in love… breakup over hallmark stupid reason then struggled through the second act and finally cliché ending… the en wasn’t so bad…

I loooove Brittainy Cherry books but this was such a disappointment!!! She finally has a black heroine (or first I’m reading) she makes her fat, okay, then she couldn’t even text her friend “congratulations!” Seriously?? What did she have to be selfish too? That part I just couldn’t get over 🤬 just selfish and self serving WHY?!?!? No one ARC this book?
Like she was the weakest person especially with 2 loving parents! I just don’t get it Brittainy! WHYYYYY????

Chapter 26 I was about to quit… I got so angry - she got balls when it comes to Aiden but Tommy and everyone else she’s quiet? 🙄 so flippin frustrated! She can lie but expect the truth??? why the hell is she still fat? Why was she this dumb and pushover? Why does she act like she doesn’t know why he is upset? She’s that dense? Is acting dumb a thing now? I like don’t know any black women this dense!!! Why mention therapy when it obviously did not work? OMG!!! She can talk but not talk to her supposedly “person?” He lets him pour his heart out and she says nothing! Nothing for weeks?!?! It was a painful read…even the list was all about her 🙄 ugh

OMG everyone in this world except Aiden and his mom were sane… also Haileigh’s mom, Kate and Mr. Lee… but everyone is a sh*Tahoe and Haileigh straight up dumpster fire 😤😡🤬

If you are going to finally highlight why make her like this? It’s so annoying - chapter 27 and I had to triple check, was Brittainy Cherry black or was I seeing things? It was a hard book to enjoy…

The last quarter picked up but could have done with different kind of drama…

Spice? .5 - closed door except for 1?

Anyway, it wasn’t a total loss but I struggled to get through a big chunk there…
