Publisher's summary

In the not too distant past, along the Mississippi River, North America tried to tear itself in half.

It failed. It won’t the second time.

New Madrid Earthquake is a stand-alone disaster thriller from international best-selling author Bobby Akart, one of America's favorite storytellers who has delivered up-all-night thrillers to readers and listeners in 245 countries and territories worldwide.

Two hundred years ago, several faults within the New Madrid seismic zone along the Mississippi River ruptured triggering some of the largest earthquakes in American history. The three massive quakes ripped open America's Heartland, shaking residents as far away as New York City and Washington, DC, while ringing church bells in Boston and Charleston, South Carolina.

Akart's stand-alone novel New Madrid Earthquake is based on actual events. It just hasn't happened yet, until now. Two hundred years later after the historic quake sequence of 1811-12, it's reawakened.

The New Madrid fault zone, six times larger than the San Andreas in California, has generated a series of massive earthquakes thrusting the Atwood and Chandler families in a fight to survive. Attorney Jack Atwood and his brother-in-law, Tony Chandler, are winding up their year-end tax-planning presentation atop The Met, a skyscraper in St. Louis, before returning to Memphis for their family's Christmas celebration. Jill Atwood, her daughter, Emily, and teenage son Tate are in a downtown Memphis performing-arts theater attending the dress rehearsal for Emily's Christmas pageant. Beth Chandler, 28 weeks pregnant, together with her three-year old autistic son, are traveling from Louisiana to join the rest of the family in Memphis.

Will they arrive for Christmas? Will they arrive at all? Their lives are about to change forever.

Prepare to be shaken.

Expected More

I understand that with this genre of genres, scientific information is needed for better understanding and to give the reader an idea of how catastrophic these events would be, but when it's given without enthusiasm from the scientific character. It can cause the book to lose its readers' excitement about the rest of the story. Also, someone in the family should have died and their world as a whole outside of surving the actual quake should not have such a great outlook.

great story, plenty of action with no cursing

loved the charactors and hope we hear more from the families featured. warmly reccommended. love the balance between the action at the different sites and the imputation from the scientists which fit well and was woven in with likable charactors. 5 stars for the author and 5 for the narrator

Earthquake apocalypse

It was nice to read some thing that was not a zombie apocalypse. Much more believable, mostly because it’s a real possibility! The characters were believable and easily relatable. The narrator did a great job.

I love the story

I probably did myself, Ms Glemboski and Mr Akart a disservice. I started reading the book before switching to Audible. As I am one of those people who has a movie going in my head while I'm reading, I found it hard to get used to the one voice narration. It really is a good story though.

This disaster will occur again. Understanding that is the beginning of wisdom!

While I have given 5 star reviews to other Bobby Akart books, this is the first in depth review I have offered. I am an original Chicagoan who transplanted to Ky and resided there for over 25 years. During that time, I was present for many, many “tremblers” as they were referred to by my friends and neighbors. IMHO They were far more than that. We lived in Western Ky, about 50 miles east of the Mississippi and Paducah.
Unfortunately, many of us think that the “Big” one will never happen to us and remain woefully unprepared for it.
Bobby’s story was as true an account as one would need to begin to understand that there are no men in white hats riding in to save us from ourselves.
While I have moved back to Chicago, everyone knows, if New Madrid goes; all hell is going to break loose. This book can help you prepare without overly preaching AT you about the subject.
As to the story, I think the characters were all well developed and found myself liking and rooting for them.
I read a couple of reviews complaining about the narrator, ignore them! She did an awesome job, despite having so many different characters to voice.
There is heartache to be sure, but in a disaster of this magnitude that is expected and would seem ingenuous if it was completely lacking.

As previously mentioned, this is my first full review of a Bobby Akart book however, it will not be my last!

I am moving on now to the Yellowstone series with great expectations.

Keep up your great work!

Good story, Great research

The story moved along well and had key scientific facts explained in a manner easily digested. A little corny with the family dynamics involved during a major disaster but fun anyway.

Another Great Read

One of my favorite authors, I noticed the easter eggs right away, in fact I had just told my husband how Bobby Akart has created his own "universe" with his books. This story is fast paced, grabbed my attention right away. I felt every emotion known. The narrator was perfect for this story.
