"Glad it was only 2 hours!"

First off the earnest longing tone of the narration is distracting and painful. The character is hallow and underdeveloped. The story while important lacks any visceral description or emotional depth. It is like listening to a made for tv movie read by a soap opera star. I was tolerant because I thought it was a true account, then realized it was a badly written, cliche filled rag of fiction.

"Sad story told by an absolutely amazing narrator!"
What made the experience of listening to Trafficked the most enjoyable?

The narrator was phenomenal! She was even able to create an accent to make it sound like she was the woman in the story! The story is a good one as well

What was one of the most memorable moments of Trafficked?

I cannot think of one specific moment that was memorable for me.

What does Ilyana Kadushin bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Kadushin was phenomenal! I felt like I was literally listening to the female MC reading her diary out loud! The narrator of this book even created an accent to match… her performance was really, really spectacular!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

    No

    Any additional comments?

My preferred genres are dark romance and dark erotica so the majority of the books I have read over the past year have been about men and women forced into sex slavery. When I chose to read TRAFFICKED, I expected it to be similar to the books I usually read; I was wrong. TRAFFICKED is not romance or erotica, it is a sad story. Told in first person, TRAFFICKED is a fictitious diary of a woman's experience while being a sex slave. I was fortunately able to listen to this in audiobook format; the narrator was phenomenal!

Because I am accustomed to reading very disturbing, twisted, dark fiction on this topic, this story did not pull on my heartstrings like it hopefully will for other people. While reading the first 1/3rd of this book, I was extremely moved. The main character's emotions were palpable and moving. I began to feel a bit irritated about 50% into the book, realizing that I was listening to a woman complain about how horrible her life was. It was certainly a horrible life but who wants to listen to how sad someone is for hours!? I also found myself wishing that the word stop worrying about her daughter so much, instead getting busy doing more! She does have reasons for her concern but I saw options for her that you're not explored in the book.

I think this book could be improved by adding more details about events that took place, giving the reader more in depth descriptions of the cruelties the female MC endured. For example, rather than just writing, "he raped me", it would be nice if the author had at least described portions of what happened (was he on top of her, standing up, on a bed, etc.). There was one particular customer who was described more than anyone else but again, I thought that more detail would have made that scene better.

Ms. Hodge did a fantastic job of telling this story in a classy way. Trafficking is not something all people want to read about yet like the author states in her notes, this is a huge, real problem that people need to read about and discuss.

    "Not helpful or insightful"
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

No. The book was not entertainment and it was not informative. The title sounds like a first hand account. And from the publishers description, I assumed that the book was close to an actual account but "fictionalized" and maybe broadened. It is not. The extent of the author's "research" seems to have been the reading of accounts on the internet and listening to a documentary on television. I had hoped to get an account based on actual events and to thereby obtain deeper insight. I learned nothing more from listening to this book than what anyone that has read a few news articles does not already know. So, it failed as a source of information. It also failed as an interesting story. Characters and events were not sufficiently developed to make for an interesting story or to develop any real bond or understanding with/of the characters. The supposed author of the book was from a small, poor, town in Moldovia. The main character was taught English from books by her father. It was highly unbelievable that she would have had the vocabulary and richness of expression represented in the book. This was a major disconnect that distracted from the believability of the story.

Has Trafficked turned you off from other books in this genre?

    Yes

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

The performance would have been good for another book and setting. However, the reading was too animated and energized to represent a woman dehumanized by trafficking.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

    No

    Any additional comments?

Not recommended as fiction and not recommended as a source of information on trafficking. The book is not entertainig and is not educational enough to warrant the time listening.

    "Semi-Accurate Account"
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Probably not. It wasn't bad, I just don't think anyone I know would be interested and I have read nearly 100 books on human trafficking and this is not one of the best....honestly.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

This book is actually quite similar to other fictional human trafficking stories I have read so it was not that original, but it is definitely close enough to some things that could happen. It is rare that a John actually helps out a trafficking victim without in turn becoming her pimp, in all honesty. I think in ways this is accurate and in other ways too nicely completed.

Did Ilyana Kadushin do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

I liked how she voiced the various people including the accents.

Do you think Trafficked needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Nah. It told the story pretty fully.

I really like thrillers. My favorite type of movie or book is one that has a unique perspective instead of a different version of the same story repeated by many different writers throughout the years. Many books are fine for a one-time listen, but to find one that's good enough to listen to again and again is a rare find indeed!!

    "Wonderful-Awful Book"

How can I possibly describe this book? The only way I can think of is to call it a wonderful-awful book! I enjoyed listening to this book. Yet I hated having to hear those awful details -- which I knew I would -- but which are so vital to communicate the truth. Hopefully enough people will become informed and one day this behavior will be eradicated.

The proof of what a great book this is: I became so involved with the character that I talked back to her in my head!! Every time I'd hear her express the hope she still maintained that she'd escape, that she'd be reunited with her family, that she'd dare to trust someone, I'd say in my head, 'Don't do it!! Don't trust him!! WHY are you trusting him?!?'

The proof that the truth is told in this book: It was weird for me to hear some of the things she felt -- the confusion, the fear, the betrayal -- oh, especially the betrayal. This is because I was sexually abused when I was young. My experiences were not anywhere near the depths of horror these people experience and I'm not trying to compare them. It's just that those feelings reverberated in my soul.

I must also mention how surprised I was to hear of the different countries involved. I think a lot of people -- especially people of my generation -- only picture people from certain countries being trafficked. It was great to be reminded it occurs everywhere. We need to know this. We need to be reminded of this fact. It's vital information for all to have.

This book was a horrible treat to read and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to know the truth of what happens every day all over this planet and to whom it happens. I also highly recommend it to anyone who has never delved into this subject because this book would be a great place to start learning.

Once you take a few hours out of your life to listen to this, you will be touched in many different ways. I'm sure you will then recommend this wonderful-awful book to others.

The things that the poor woman in this book had to go through to make sure that her daughter was safe are unreal. It is so hard to beleive that things like this happen but when you read this book you know that it is real and it makes you want to help.

""We are only as blind as we want to be""

This short novel should be shared by all.
It sheds light on the gritty and grotesque world we live in while asking the question "what can you do?"
I am thankful for authors like Sible Hodge who are not afraid to speak out, use their gifts, and ask for change.
It was a very gripping and educational novel and sparked in me a fire to be aware and fight for all those who are enslaved by our worlds corruption.

The narrator Ilyana Kadushin perfectly reflected the internal and external struggle of the young protagonist. I truly admire her skill to present a novel that is rough to it's very core.

Overall this novel was well written and produced.

    "Wow! What an eye opener!"

I have just finished this book and kudos to the author, Sibel Hodge for writing it. What an eye opener this book is. I have heard of sex trafficking before, but never in such detail. This book is well written and even though it is sad, I couldn't stop listening to it. I had to know if Elena got away and found Lilliana. That poor girl and all the terrible things that happened to her and all the others who get trapped just like her.

I would be like Paul and everyone else thinking women are in brothels because they chose to be. This book changed my mind on that thought! Totally mind blowing. Lesson learned here: it only takes one person to make a difference!

Well written & superb job by narrator, Ilyana Kadushin too! I love how it was written as a diary. This way made me feel like it was more real. I also want to say, I love how some of the proceeds will go to helping others! It took a brave lady to write this book! Good job indeed!

"W-O-W! Well worth listening to - a little gem."
What did you like best about this story?

The entire book. It made me cry, squirm, smile and even took my breath away!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, I listened to the whole thing in one go - it was well written and really opened my mind up to the severity of human trafficking... It's one of those things that I was always aware of but didn't know much about so having the book written from this perspective was fascinating.

    "Gripping from start to finish!"

Wow! Loved this audiobook. I read this book the week previous and thoroughly enjoyed it. I have to admit that it's not the genre of book I would usually read/listen to but I have recently become a massive fan of Sibel Hodge's having read some of her other books. I am so glad I read this! I literally couldn't put it down. The story grips you from the start and pulls you into Elena's world. When I listened to the audiobook I found the narrators voice perfectly matched how I imagined Elena's voice to sound and this certainly enhances the feeling that this story is true to life and you immediately empathize with Elena's predicament. The story has exciting parts that keep you wanting to hear more.
I would urge anyone to listen to this audiobook. You will not be dissapointed.
On a serious note it made me aware of the trafficking industry and it really shocked me that this actually happens in today's world. More needs to be done to prevent this from happening and free the poor women that sadly live this terrible life. Thank you for writing such a gripping, thought provoking book Sibel.
