Publisher's summary

A canine Search and Rescue volunteer fights danger and finds love in the Pacific Northwest wilderness in this riveting #1 New York Times bestseller from Nora Roberts.

To most people, Fiona Bristow seems to have an idyllic life - a quaint house on an island off Seattle’s coast, a thriving dog-training school and a challenging volunteer job performing Canine Search and Rescue. But Fiona got to this point by surviving a nightmare: an encounter with the Red Scarf Killer, who shot and killed Fiona’s cop fiancé and his K-9 partner.

On Orcas Island, Fiona has found the peace and solitude necessary to rebuild her life with her three loyal Labs. But all that changes on the day intensely private wood artist Simon Doyle barrels up her drive with an out-of-control puppy, desperate for her help.

As Fiona embarks on training Jaws, and Simon begins to appreciate both dog and trainer, the past tears back into Fiona’s life. A copycat killer has emerged out of the shadows, a man whose bloodlust has been channeled by a master with one motive: to reclaim the woman who slipped out of his hands...

Critic reviews

"[T]he romance is finely done, with Roberts's trademark banter lighting up the page. Fiona and Simon are the main attraction, but the setting and the supporting characters - with paws and without - provide a vivid backdrop." (Publishers Weekly)

“Search-and-rescue dogs are a focal point of this wonderful tale of love and adventure. Roberts has a marvelous ability to blend in the perfect amounts of character drama, realistic romance and chilling suspense. The result - an unputdownable read! Roberts again proves why her name is synonymous with excellence.” (RT Book Reviews)

“Strong romantic suspense.... The serial killer subplot is not new, as the copycat has been done before, but Nora Roberts makes it seem fresh with her incredible writing skill as she uses the Search and Rescue canines as key elements in the exciting story line. Readers will enjoy Ms. Roberts’ entertaining Puget Sound thriller.” (Midwest Book Review)

I Loved This Story!

I procrastinated listening to this story thinking it would be boring. How WRONG I was...This book was so good I spent the entire weekend attached to my IPOD wanting to know what would happen next. I loved Simon and his grumpy demeanor, it just kept the story all the more real and Phe was great in the way she knew just how to handle him. Perfect match! Kudos to Nora Roberts I am a huge In Death Series fan but now I am open to exploring her other stories.
Big 10 stars to the narrator for doing such an awesome job, I felt that I was part of the story.
Happy Listening!!

Loved It!!

I almost didn’t listen to this book due to the negative reviews. I’m glad I bought it! Yes, there are a lot of dog training specifics in here. I feel I could train a dog successfully now! But—- this is how Nora Roberts’ books are in my opinion. There’s always a lot of extra filler about whatever the main character’s interest is. This is how she allows you to feel like you know the character and how you get drawn into the story. I loved the book, the way the plot went and the ending! So happy I did not listen to the nay sayers!!

Surprised

I have never read Nora Roberts and a friend recommended this book. I love dogs and the main character teaches you how to train and love your animals. It was great reading with a wonderful plot that held me in suspense. I enloyed it from beginning to end.

Sometimes reading IS better than listening!

What did you like best about The Search? What did you like least?

The story. The narrator.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

While it did not keep me on the edge of my seat it kept me intrigued enough to suffer through the narration.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Tanya Eby?

Rebecca Lowman, Susan Ericksen, Renee Raudman, my 8th grade English teacher...

Do you think The Search needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

A well written book such as this always make me interested in the other characters, so sure I would love a follow up book to see where some of the other brewing romances between the secondary characters end up.

Any additional comments?

If read, this is a great book. However, for me the Narrator totally killed the book. When the characters spoke in full sentences, the voice started our as "normal" and went up octaves so by the end of the sentence it seemed that they all should end with exclamation points. t

NORA ROBERTS HAS COME THROUGH AGAIN WITH A WINNER!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I purchased the paperback and it was good enought to read twice. When my sister went into surgury I gave my paperback to her. The audiobook brought voices to all the characters.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Search?

When the serial killer left his calling card at the drive to Fiona's house.

Have you listened to any of Tanya Eby’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have neer listened to any of Tanya Eby's performances before, but was very impressed.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

YES

Good mystery romance

i would have given 5 stars but the first 1/3 of book dwelled too much on the dogs. Otherwise great story and narration.

Great Narrator

I've listened to Tanya Eby before, and I like her. But I think that her reading of this book really increased my enjoyment of the story over all. I like Nora Roberts as a general rule, but sometimes her books can get predictable, especially if you've read more than a handful! But, Tanya Eby's reading really made the characters for me. I could really picture them in my head because she made them each so individual.

The story itself was good, and the characters pretty well fleshed out. Also, I'm a sucker for the reluctant hero, so Simon was my favorite character. :) The dogs were adorable, too, and pretty fleshed out characters themselves.

Overall an enjoyable story, but more so an excellent listen!

Great story just hard to get into the narrator

I enjoyed the story & the narrator wasn’t awful … I just couldn’t handle the inflections in her voice when speaking as the characters

Excellent

Nora Roberts is an author I’ve sampled sparingly, but each book I’ve read or heard has been excellent; this is my favorite so far. Of course, any book with dogs is a hit!
As for Tanya Eby, the first time I listened to a book she narrated, I thought her voice was just odd. But, she’s knocked down all my walls and become one of my faves! She outdid herself on this one.

Good read

I really enjoyed this book. Humor runs through it. Male character is a much different in likable-likable character. Well worth the listening.
