Publisher's summary

Win, place, or die.

The apparent heart attack that killed kennel owner Max Turnbull has left seven pups in mourning, and his wife Peg suspecting foul play. But the only evidence is their missing prize pooch - a pedigreed poodle named Beau.

Enter Melanie Travis. With her young son happily ensconced in day damp, the 30-something teacher and single mother is talked into investigating her uncle's death - unofficially, of course. Posing as a poodle breeder in search of the perfect stud, Melanie hounds Connecticut's elite canine competitions and finds an ally in fellow breeder Sam Driver. But her affection cools when she's put on the scent of Sam's questionable past...and hot on the trail of a poodle-hating neighbor and one elusive murderer who isn't ready to come to heel.

For as Melanie soon discovers, in a championship dog-eat-dog world the instinct for survival, and winning, can prove fatal.

Lapsed Catholics are the worst

The complete misrepresentation of the faith. A former nun and priest marrying….super weird and cringe. They are getting high marks because the performance is amazing.

Narrator spoke too fast!

I couldn’t get through more than an hour of this. The narrator spoke way too fast, I couldn’t tell who was speaking when, or even if it was just the main character speaking or thinking to herself. Too hard to follow.

average

Story was average, but narrator was distracting by reading too fast and sounds like Lisa Simpson.

Love A Good Dog Mystery!

I loved this dog Mystery! It’s similar to Krista Davis’ Paws and Claws Mysteries, and I love the fact that is has an owner and her pets solving mysteries just like Holly and Trixie with their elderly relatives that lost their pets and there’s a murder in every story!

Gone to the dogs

Story ok and ended with a surprise narrator bad I kept checking to be sure it wasn't on a fast speed. Distracted from book.

Easy read

The book was an easy read/listen. Light enjoyable mystery. The narrator was on overdrive. Very fast. However, if you slow it down to .8, she was fantastic. Perfect speed with a full range of voices for the characters.
