Publisher's summary

A canine Search and Rescue volunteer fights danger and finds love in the Pacific Northwest wilderness in this riveting #1 New York Times bestseller from Nora Roberts.

To most people, Fiona Bristow seems to have an idyllic life - a quaint house on an island off Seattle’s coast, a thriving dog-training school and a challenging volunteer job performing Canine Search and Rescue. But Fiona got to this point by surviving a nightmare: an encounter with the Red Scarf Killer, who shot and killed Fiona’s cop fiancé and his K-9 partner.

On Orcas Island, Fiona has found the peace and solitude necessary to rebuild her life with her three loyal Labs. But all that changes on the day intensely private wood artist Simon Doyle barrels up her drive with an out-of-control puppy, desperate for her help.

As Fiona embarks on training Jaws, and Simon begins to appreciate both dog and trainer, the past tears back into Fiona’s life. A copycat killer has emerged out of the shadows, a man whose bloodlust has been channeled by a master with one motive: to reclaim the woman who slipped out of his hands...

Critic reviews

"[T]he romance is finely done, with Roberts's trademark banter lighting up the page. Fiona and Simon are the main attraction, but the setting and the supporting characters - with paws and without - provide a vivid backdrop." (Publishers Weekly)

“Search-and-rescue dogs are a focal point of this wonderful tale of love and adventure. Roberts has a marvelous ability to blend in the perfect amounts of character drama, realistic romance and chilling suspense. The result - an unputdownable read! Roberts again proves why her name is synonymous with excellence.” (RT Book Reviews)

“Strong romantic suspense.... The serial killer subplot is not new, as the copycat has been done before, but Nora Roberts makes it seem fresh with her incredible writing skill as she uses the Search and Rescue canines as key elements in the exciting story line. Readers will enjoy Ms. Roberts’ entertaining Puget Sound thriller.” (Midwest Book Review)

Love it!

Nora Roberts as usual weaves a fantastic story and this one is just as wonderful as the others. However, I found myself laughing several times with the humor she slips in. Love, mystery, suspense what more can you ask for. I won't tell you about the story or the characters as many all ready has, but I will say this one you must listen or read, whichever is your preference, you will be thrilled you did!

Great For Dog Lovers

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

As always, Nora Roberts writes a fab story, but I especially loved this being from the San Juan Islands, Washington State myself, and being a dog owner.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The dog training tips she reminds us of, and as usual, and interesting story line.

What about Tanya Eby’s performance did you like?

She made a great Fiona voice.

OK Listen

Read the reviews and was so-so about getting this book. It was ok, I enjoyed the listen. Easy to listen to. People said predictable - but isn't that true of many romance/mystery/thrillers? As for the dog training parts - ok too. At least it got me to go work with my own dogs a little more!
It's my first Nora Roberts - I'll probably look at some of her other books as well.

Abuse and control are never sexy!

The descriptions of the serial killers, the search and rescue dogs, and the geographical location were all excellent. On the other hand romance is never a situation where one person manipulates abuses and controls another person. It may seem complimentary in the initial stages but will eventually become terrifying, and will destroy the confidence and diminish the capacity of the woman being abused and controlled. For Nora Roberts to have used this type of relationship in one of her novels is very disappointing. Her characters are usually strong and there is a sense of equity in the relationship is portrayed in her novels. I sincerely hope that this type of scenario is not repeated in the future.

Great book!

This is one of my favorites from this author. This book had everything, great plot, wonderful characters, and suspense. I really wasn’t sure how it would end.
