Publisher's summary

The four dead guards didn’t concern Mitch Rapp as much as the absence of the man they’d been paid to protect. Joe Rickman wasn’t just another foot soldier. For the last eight years Rickman had ran the CIA’s clandestine operations in Afghanistan. It was a murky job that involved working with virtually every disreputable figure in the Islamic Republic. More than a quarter billion dollars in cash had passed through Rickman’s hands during his tenure as the master of black ops and no one with a shred of sense wanted to know the details of how that money had been spent.

At first glance it looks as if Rickman has been kidnapped, but Rapp knows certain things about his old friend that cause him to wonder if something more disturbing isn’t afoot. Irene Kennedy, the director of the CIA, has ordered Rapp to find Rickman at all costs. Rapp must navigate the ever-shifting landscape of Afghanistan as the Taliban, Iranians, Pakistanis and Russians all plot to claim their piece of the war torn state.

With Afghanistan crumbling around him, Rapp must be as ruthless as his enemies and as deceitful as people in his own government if he has any hopes of completing his mission.

Stan in PakisStan

Contemporary plot with Mitch Rapp's mentor playing key roles in a Country lost in ancient weak traditions. Who done it?

The Mitch Rapp Series

I have never been a big fan of political assassin stories. I find them too predicable. I began reading book 6 of the series only because I had absolutely nothing else to read. My intent was to find something better as soon as I could. About half way through the book I began to notice that the story line was written unlike anything I expected. After finishing book 6, I had to go back and start reading from book 1. I have now read all 13. Mitch Rapp is a paid assassin for the CIA. (I know, just like every other CIA story but don't judge too quickly) He puts duty, honor, and sacrifice above his own self interest. Values that are not often found in D.C. Rapp specializes in going after extreme terrorists and those that protect and aide them, whether home or abroad. He then sets out eliminating them. if you are like me and feel that far too many of todays politicians are self-serving, and do only what is popular to get themselves reelected I would encourage you to check this series out. If you also enjoy seeing wrongs righted and the guilty paying for their crimes, then by all means read these books.

What didn’t you like about George Guidall’s performance?

I didn't like his tone, cadence and overall performance. Many better narrators for this tye of intriguing and exciting story.

Hoping Flynn that left some manuscripts

Mitch Rapp series that Vince Flynn gave us before passing away was one of the best storylines in non fiction ever. Here's hoping that there are some manuscripts in the can that his family will be willing to release in the future. I surely hope this is not the last novel.

Vince Flynn - the master of suspense

Many twists and turns, Flynn does not disappoint! I could listen to it all over again, which would be a first for me.

I really appreciated how he captures the flavor of Washington, seemingly more corrupt as each year passes. Also, how Washington insiders fail to understand the mentality of the middle east.

Can't wait till the next Mitch Rapp book.

Can't get enough of Mitch Rapp

Would you listen to The Last Man again? Why?

George Guidall is an excellent narrator, second to none, in my book.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

As always, you can't wait to continue to hear (or read) the story. You just have to know what happens next... and then its finished and you can't wait to get your hands on the next one.
