Publisher's summary

A former Delta Force commander, Brad Taylor proves with this breathtaking debut thriller that Vince Flynn and Brad Thor have company.

A collection of top operatives, the Taskforce was commissioned by the highest levels of government, kept secret from the media and even Congress. The best of the Taskforce bunch, Pike Logan, knows the greatest threat to American security is one or two idealogues. Unfortunately for them, they’ve just crossed Pike’s path.

Good Story, just not quite "Prime Time".

What did you like about this audiobook?

The modern technology used by Delta, and the wide range of mission tactics. The modern day warrior is significantly more advanced and complicated than the days of MACVSOG.

How has the book increased your interest in the subject matter?

I had to buy the second book as a result of increasing interest in the realistic story line. If Brad Taylor wrote it, it has to be an extrapolation of his or his groups history. I would love to read some of the after-action reports.

Does the author present information in a way that is interesting and insightful, and if so, how does he achieve this?

I think Eric Henley, and Charley Beckworth jumped Taylor's butt for being too insightful. Taylor must be Americas' answer to James Bond. All kidding aside, this book is good and gives readers a look inside a very black world. This book would make a good TV series, oh wait a minute; that has already been done.

What did you find wrong about the narrator's performance?

I hated the deep gravely voices used to indicate different people in the scene. I found the performance amateurish and distracting. Good story, but get some one with more range than this narrator.

Do you have any additional comments?

The second book is much better than the first. I'm trying to find a copy of the third book. Evidently Audible hasn't heard of it yet. Get on the ball guys. I want to hear the third book.

I would also be very interested in knowing why Taylor left his group. Any S.F./Seal group/team is a family with bonds that are stronger than that of any sibling. I wouldn't be interested in hearing anything about age or retirement. Like it eludes too in the book, people like Pike have trouble assimilating into a world normal Citizens.

Still searching for the new Mitch Rapp series....

Any additional comments?

I, like many others, am still looking for the new Mitch Rapp series. in reality, it won't happen, but this is the best so far. I have listened to all of the Jack Reacher and Scott Harvath books, and liked both, but they are no Mitch Rapp. This series has the best hope. There are gaps in the plot and the earlier recordings are clearly patched together, which is annoying, but there is great hope in the series and I am looking forward to listening to the others. If you like any of the books I have mentioned, give this a shot, and know that the recordings and plot gaps get cleaned up over the course of the first 2-3 books.

Far from what I expected.

Pike goes on and on about how amazing he is at his job. And I didn't like how he narrated.

The narrator over enunciated random words
like " and the he SAT down"

The book goes on and on about unimportant things making the story move very slowly.

I have read the Brad Thor and Vince Flynn series and this book was a let down

KEEP LISTENING DESPITE NARRATION

At first I couldn’t stand the narration. But I keep listening despite and the book is so good you get past it. Either the narration actually got better or you just get used to it. I don’t know.

Interaction of dialogue was strange

Sometimes one narrator would talk the part of both then it would switch to the other narrator who did the same thing. I liked the story but found it hard to know who the narrator was portraying as he read??

Good Story Painful Narrator

my favorite genre. Not a bad story. Characters a bit interesting. However, even after speeding narrator reading up to 1.3 I still found the reading painful with the stop start clipped read.

Predictable

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Ok listening, but the story line is weak and predictable.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The idea behind the good guy hero is a nice one, but very elementary in thought.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The narrator's voice was not convincing; it was like listening to a high school student try to do Shakespeare.

Did One Rough Man inspire you to do anything?

no
