Publisher's summary

Court Gentry, aka the Gray Man, is back – and once again on the run from old friends and foes.

Four years ago, Gentry was betrayed by his handlers in the CIA. Now, an old comrade, Russian arms merchant Sidorenko, returns to force him on a mission against his will: kill Sudan’s President Abboud, the supposed trigger for the Darfur genocide. But the CIA has its own plans for Abboud. With his ruthless employers on one side, his blackmailing former friends on the other, and a doomed mission ahead, Gentry would kill just to get out of this one alive.

Every bit as thrilling, informed, and addictive as The Gray Man, and once again skillfully narrated by Jay Snyder, On Target is sure to hit the mark for thriller fans.

Just gets better

Topping the first book in this series seemed impossible, but Mark Greaney managed to do it here. His Court Gentry is real, aches, pains, and brawn. There's none of the Superman stuff you get from other novels. He's all guts. And his constant running, away from handlers, those out to kill him, is just his lone wolf nature. Greaney has a special talent when it comes to making this man a three dimensional character. There is no one else who could narrate this book other than Jay Snyder. He has the edge to pull it off. Court is a brutal man, but deep down in there he has a heart. Well done, and I can't wait for book 3!

Love the Gray Man

Court Gentry is a man of contrast. A paid cold assassin who will not hesitate to kill his target, yet he has a soft side and will go out of his way to save the innocent. No matter how stupid they are. He worked for the CIA until a mysterious Shoot on Sight order was put out on him. Now he travels the world and works as a contract killer. Mostly for two sources. This time he is contracted to kill the president of Sudan by shady Russian gangsters. The president is a murderous dictator, so not too much of a problem with that. But a funny thing happens on his way there and he is side tracked first by his old handler in the CIA who wants the president of Sudan kidnapped but not killed. If Court complies, they will drop the Shoot on Sight order. But nothing is simple for Gentry as a Canadian woman from the International Criminal Court interferes with his plan to get to Sudan and Court has to save her. This unfortunately takes up have the book but once he dumps this woman into safe territory the real story can begin. He meets up with his old CIA team to kidnap the president of Sudan and things go terribly wrong. From bad to worst.

Great action. Kind of a Blackhawk Down feel to it. Greaney does a great job of describing action scenes. And Court has a monkey on his back, and an arrow in his shoulder dipped in a putrid chicken meat. He has tried to come down off of a drug habit but the pills keep calling him back. How do you handle the bad guys, kidnapping and save your fellow agents when you are high and have a festering wound in your back. Listen and you will find out.

Great series!

I am really enjoying this series. It is written well, with good twists and turns. The characters are flushed out to be believable people.
The narration is wonderful, the reader is very talented.
I recommend these books.

Not The Best But Good

This is a great series, so far. But I wasn't as impressed with this second book as the first. There was more detail and substance in the first book. This one felt like a pit stop b/n the first and what I'm hoping will be a great third book. Worth the credit.

Can anything else go wrong?

I suppose the story isn’t bad, but I found myself constantly wondering what else can possibly go wrong. Listening to someone struggling for more than 10 hours is torture. I really liked the previous book and will listen to the next one, but On Target is definitely not in my top 10. The fighting and ammunition descriptions are a bit technical and long winded.

I really like Court Gentry, and really hope his luck will turn.

Lived up to expectations

Would you consider the audio edition of On Target to be better than the print version?

I haven't read the print version of this book. Audio books appeal to me more than print books because they allow me to do other things whilst listening to the story. I'm not restricted to sitting in a chair.

What was one of the most memorable moments of On Target?

The way Gentry used the contents of the trucks he was travelling in to build a bomb and create enough confusion to escape execution was the most memorable scene in this audio book.

Have you listened to any of Jay Snyder’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I really enjoy Jay's reading style. The voices he creates for each character assists to create an image of that person in my mind that fits well with the characteristics of the character. I can imagine the image of a character doing the things they do. It's not a mismatch. I think this performance is as good as any other he has done that I have listened to.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

An action pacted covert adventure from start to finish, On Target will keep you enguaged through to the end.

Any additional comments?

If you are interested in easy to listen to action packed adventures this is your book. Not too many characters to remember and a very uncomplicated story makes this a very enjoyable story.

Among the Best of the Genre

You cannot go wrong listening to the addictive Grey Man series. It is so well-written with thrills and action at every turn. The characters are developed and realistic. The narrator, Jay Snyder, is so outstanding that it is difficult to put the book down. For me, another night's sleep lost. And that shows you how compelling the book is because to many other books I have no trouble falling asleep. It is not necessary to listen to the series in order. Every Grey Man book is addictive -- a credit well spent.
