John Sandford's acclaimed Prey novels featuring the brilliant Lucas Davenport have plunged millions of readers into the darkest recesses of the criminal mind. Now Lucas has met his match. More than mayhem

As with other Sandford works, this story contains almost stunning cruelty, violence and breathtaking suspense. Mind Prey goes beyond that, tugging at a remarkable range of emotions with a delightfully human touch.

Disturbed by the approval of child rape

I understand this book is fictional but I do find it not quite disturbing but close to that that two of the main characters condone child rape and as long as the person gets therapy and acknowledges that there's something wrong with them that it excuses the fact that someone may have raped 10 little boys and it's okay as long they admit that they're sick and they get therapy it's like it never happened and if they happen to fall off the wagon and rape another 10 little boys well they're sick it's not their fault and they're seeking therapy they just had to relapse and like I said I know this is a fictional book but the fact that two of the main characters seem to be okay with the idea of child rape I mean I can only imagine yours or my child who's just becoming a teenager or who may be around 6 being raped in the law won't do anything about it because that individual decided to get therapy and it's like it never happened but what about my kid what about other people's kids what about future kids because it's not going to go away no amount of therapy it's going to fix that and how weather says and you call yourself a liberal if all liberals share this point of view of these two main characters then I want all liberals evicted from my country that is disgusting and there is no justification no way that I could see living among people who think it's okay and I think if you are a human being and you disagree with me then you are garbage I'm sorry there's just no other way to put it and you're part of the problem and you need to be deleted and I know it's a book but I also know people believe this type of thing it's just so disgusting bunch of damn savages so draconian and like I said I understand this is a fictional book but it came from a real person and I can't have wonder if this is their belief

One of the best of the series

This book is brutal, but it is one of the very best in the Lucas Davenport series. Mind Prey is mind blowing. I have never pulled for characters to survive as much as I pulled for the mother and children who were kidnapped. Lucas is having a devil of a time trying to rescue them from the evil cruel kidnapper, and Mom is fighting with all she has to get free. She goes through hell from this cruel man and I hurt for her so much. Lucas and his team are frustrated and desperate to find and free her. It is just an amazing edge of the seat, nail biting experience and I was totally absorbed in the story. Sandford is a master story teller - and that is a rare talent. He is also great at creating characters and dialog.

As usual, Richard Ferrone gives an excellent narration. I don't think I could enjoy any other narrator at this point because Ferrone is the voice of the Lucas Davenport series and helps to bring the story and characters to life. This is one of the best series on Audible. Love it!!!

Slow start but dynomite finish

Would you listen to Mind Prey again? Why?

I will probably listen to it again in a few years when it will seem new but I seldom reread a book sooner.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes, the last half of the book was very suspenseful and kept me guessing nearly to the end.

Which scene was your favorite?

That would be giving it away but the rescue was very exciting.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Could you ever imagine what it would be like to go head to head with the most unpredictable psycho you could imagine?

Any additional comments?

I liked the additional character development. Sometimes I wish the narrator were a little more expressive or enthusiastic.

Love the prey

Always love Lucas can not get enough. I had not listened to a prey book in a long time. Great audio book when you are at home with the quarantine.

Suspenseful (Spoiler Alert)

I have a few of the Lucas Davenport novels and I have enjoyed them. However I think “Mind Prey” is the best so far. I like that the protagonist did not kill everyone that crossed his path. It was a horrible crime, but the victims made it out alive. And the protagonist ended his own life rather than Davenport add another body to his count.

Early Gold

This is one of the earlier versions of the Davenport series.....And it's pretty damn good. One thing that keeps the story moving at a good pace is that there's a woman and her two girls being held by this nut job, and they know there's just a limited amount of time to get them back alive. So they pull out all the stops to find this guy.

The last few chapters in particular are very exciting. I was driving at night on a lonesome highway and was glad because it really got intense....I couldn't have listened to it with a lot of traffic because it would be hard to concentrate on the story and driving at that point....It was just that good.....

Great Book

Love the Lucas Davenport series but the narrator leaves alot to be desired. I almost gave up before chapter 2, his periodic pauses drove me crazy.

Twists and turns

I like this series for the story as well as the characters. Believable without being obvious and lots of twist with an intelligent (ok he is crazy, but ...) bad guy and some pretty unlikeable other people. I read it in 2015. So it seems a bit of a period piece.
