Publisher's summary

The propulsive, shockingly plausible sequel to New York Times best seller Daemon.

In one of the most buzzed-about debuts, Daniel Suarez introduced a terrifying vision of a new world order, controlled by the Daemon, an insidious computer program unleashed by a hi-tech wunderkind. Daemon captured the attention of the tech community, became a New York Times and Indie best seller, and left listeners hungry for more. Well, more is here, and it's even more gripping than its predecessor.

In the opening chapters of Freedom, the Daemon is firmly in control, using an expanded network of real-world, dispossessed darknet operatives to tear apart civilization and rebuild it anew. Soon civil war breaks out in the American Midwest, in a brutal wave of violence that becomes known as the Corn Rebellion. Former detective Pete Sebeck, now the Daemon's most powerful - though reluctant - operative, must lead a small band of enlightened humans toward a populist movement designed to protect the new world order. But the private armies of global business are preparing to crush the Daemon once and for all.

In a world of conflicted loyalties, rapidly diminishing human power, and the possibility that anyone can be a spy, what's at stake is nothing less than human freedom's last hope to survive the technology revolution.

Critic reviews

"Freedom™ surpasses its smart, exciting predecessor. This concluding volume crackles with electrifying action scenes and bristles with intriguing ideas about a frightening, near-future world. The two books combined form the cyberthriller against which all others will be measured.” (Publishers Weekly [starred review]

“Suarez continues his popular technothriller, and Daemon fans will be well be pleased with the exciting conclusion.” (Booklist)

"An engrossing, fast-paced tale of speculative fiction." (SF Site)

Very entertaining book

Very interesting book about the futuristic overly controlling society. The story itself was very captivating, and the reading was even better. Different characters have different speech patterns which made it much easier to keep track.

l love this book

The technology drew me into this book, but the characters were incredible! Loki, the Major, John were great. My favorite has got to be Roy and the burning man! Very inspiring set of events at the end.

This Is Probably My Favorite Author In A Long Time

If you could sum up Freedom (TM) in three words, what would they be?

Engaging Thought Provoking

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes, the good guys were winning and then the bad guys were winning and then the bad guys became the good guys....

What does Jeff Gurner bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Enjoyable to listen too. Very talented narrator

OMG this series is SO good.

Daniel Suarez has made a book with "kind of magic" and in a very plausible way. And Jeff Gurner did an eminent job voicing this series, he has a huge range and is very skilled at accents and at differentiating the voices of the characters. This series is definitely in my top 3

*perhaps slightly spoiler-ish...*

a perfect ending to one of the best series on Audible... I almost wish this would happen IRL. 😉

I could not put this book down. It was excellent from the beginning to the end. Read Daemon first.

Best book ever

the title says it all, this is easily the best book I've ever had the fortune to listen to. The overall story and performance of the narrator is A+++.

Damn Hard Decisions

Right or wrong...Forced control or freedom... The human race is not simply understood. Philosophically people claim there can not be a God because there is sorrow and pain in the world. This complex and sometimes painful story shows there could be little else but both. Man can not live in paradise. The most correct world, depends on perspective. It can be both depending where you stand. I enjoyed this two book series, even if I had to replay things to figure out who the characters were since they all seemed to be addressed by multiple names. Outside of that confusion, thought this was a unique perspective and I enjoy unique!
