Publisher's summary

“I didn’t do it!” is something cops hear all the time. But when the plea comes from a close friend who’s fallen on hard times, it’s tougher to ignore, especially for young Officer Danny Boyle. It’s the start of another action-packed summer for the wisecracking Boyle and straight-arrow cop (now chief of detectives) John Ceepak down the Jersey Shore as they do their best to help Danny’s friend, a young nurse who claims she has been falsely accused of aggravated assault by a prestigious Sea Haven doctor.

Ceepak’s unshakable code of honor is tested when he trusts that the nurse is telling the truth. It’s stretched to the limit when one of the nurse’s home health care patients turns up dead. Now Ceepak and Danny must answer the hard and horrible question: "Did we just help a friend get away with murder?" Get ready for another fun and fast-paced listen from Anthony and Agatha award-winner Chris Grabenstein.

Great series!!! Read EACH book twice!!!!

Danny and John Ceepak make a great team. "Sunny, Funderful Sea Haven" is a town full of adventure. The chemistry between the two lead characters makes the series. Truly a fun mystery, with Jeff Woodman returning as the narrator in the 8th book of the series. I know you will enjoy it!!! I would start at the beginning, you will appreciate John's character so mch more.

Ceepak is BACK!

John Ceepak is BACK! He is one of my many guilty pleasures and I don't mind everyone knowing. Grabenstein's books are fun, clever, and entirely delightful. Consistently a great choice for reading/listening pleasure.

FREE FALL

Where does Free Fall rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

That's a hard question, because I have looked at these books as more as a comic relief; than anything else.

What other book might you compare Free Fall to and why?

I really couldn't say, because I wasn't thinking along those lines. I was actually enjoying myself, and finding myself smiling a lot. 😁

Have you listened to any of Jeff Woodman’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes, in the previous books in this series. He did a great job as Ceepak's dad!!!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I did!! 😊

Any additional comments?

Excellent end to a great series!!! I'm hoping to get an email saying there is a new book coming out! I'M NOT SURE, I THINK THEY SAY THIS SERIES IS FOR YOUNG ADULTS, HOWEVER, I READ IT ANYWAY FOR FUN. I'M SO GLAD I DID! THE SETTING IS AT THE JERSEY SHORE, THE CHARACTERS ARE HILARIOUS, AND THE PLOTS REVOLVE AROUND THE RIDES ON THE BOARDWALK, I.E. FUN HOUSE, FREE FALL. QUICK EASY, FUN BOOKS THAT WILL MAKE YOU LAUGH AND SMILE, AND YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE A TEENAGER EITHER!!! 😁👙🐷⚓💰🏊🎰🎲😀

Not 'Cepak' Quality

Would you be willing to try another book from Chris Grabenstein? Why or why not?

Yes, other than Mad Mouse, I like Chris Grabenstein's other books, even those written for younger audiences.

What aspect of Jeff Woodman’s performance would you have changed?

The drunken father voice was a little theatrical, but all others were well-done.

Any additional comments?

It might be time to retire the series due to the limits created by the naming convention. At some point, it just seems awkward and contrived.

I love this series!

I love everything about these books. I just discovered them and listened to them one right after the other. Now I'm caught up... and sad. I hope he writes more.

Just another great Ceepak book

Where does Free Fall rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I really like Fun House but, this is just a better story. It could be the best because Danny is a very competent detective. He is growing up and now make decision on his own plus the give take during interview with Ceepak.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

At no point during the investigation does Chris Grabenstein tip his hand and let you know would be the guilty person. On the hand with Danny knowing everyone on the island it is almost heart breaking when they are investigate another one his friends.

What does Jeff Woodman bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

By far one my favor readers. What is now happening now is you'll hear an old or dead character in a new character voice. I just hope there is not a change here.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Danny's friend explains her job in advance age home care. When Danny's and his friend at the picnic table at he fish place.

Any additional comments?

I just love this series. I hope they keep coming each May for the next several years.

Fun,fast, not much of a story

What did you like best about Free Fall? What did you like least?

Jeff Woodman - best

lack of anything happening - least

Have you listened to any of Jeff Woodman’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

firs one I have listened to. Hope to hear more.

Do you think Free Fall needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

No,the book should have included an ending. Cheap trick to just have it stop without a real conclusion. I don't care enough to buy a followup book

Any additional comments?

Good to listen to while driving. Entertaining, but doesn't take much concentration

Beloved character mature thru series!

So, there's this crime, and these police officers try to solve it.

This one was almost a cozy, except for the places where it wasn't.

I love these characters--I'd gladly listen to them solve the mystery of who ate the last cookie.

And I really love that Danny, Ceepak, et al grow and change from year to year and book to book. So much more relatable than characters that stay perpetually 28 across 20+ books (ahem, Stephanie Plum).

Wish I had listened to book 7 first :-(. SPOILERS

Any additional comments?

What I loved about this story:

Danny and Ceepak as a team being funny as ever.

A classic who dun it vibe.

Clues to the murderer are left around the story like little crumbs helping you deduce whose the likely suspect.

Ceepak making a funny. (Actually I can't remember if it was this story or from Rolling Thunder...hehehe)

A very well written mystery with some fun laughs and some fun characters.

What I didn't love about this story:

The dumb Mayor and Chief of Police.

The disrespect towards Danny close to the end.

Ceepak not letting his annoying old man die previously.

Christine! Great she has an oath, but what good is it if you allow people to walk all over you! When your lawyer has threaten not to represent you because you won't tell him why people are trying to destroy your life because you care so much about them, but they hate the very essence of you, something is seriously loose in your brain!!!! Jeeze she was ridiculously pathetic!!! Damsel in distress all the way. I hate damsels in distress who do not even try to help themselves!!!!

Katie didn't miraculously come back from the dead to be with Danny again. (What? She's the only chic I could I stand in this series so far for Danny. Leila was ok, at least she had a backbone but....we know how that turned out).

Danny's attraction to hot chic's seemed leacherous in this story. In previous stories his description of hot chic's were funny. I was completely turned off by them in this story.
Mainly because I'm not attracted to chic's sooo...

No book 9 to make everything that went wrong in this story better. -frustrated sigh-
