Publisher's summary

The first in a stunning new series introducing the Marlow Murder Club!

"A hugely enjoyable murder mystery written with wonderful verve, humour and compassion. Utterly delightful." (Robert Webb)

"I love Robert Thorogood’s writing." (Peter James)

From the creator of the BBC One hit TV series Death in Paradise.

To solve an impossible murder, you need an impossible hero....

Judith Potts is 77 years old and blissfully happy. She lives on her own in a faded mansion just outside Marlow, there’s no man in her life to tell her what to do or how much whisky to drink, and to keep herself busy she sets crosswords for The Times newspaper.

One evening, while out swimming in the Thames, Judith witnesses a brutal murder. The local police don’t believe her story, so she decides to investigate for herself and is soon joined in her quest by Suzie, a salt-of-the-earth dog-walker, and Becks, the prim and proper wife of the local vicar.

Together, they are the Marlow Murder Club.

When another body turns up, they realize they have a real-life serial killer on their hands. And the puzzle they set out to solve has become a trap from which they might never escape....

Enjoyable cozy

Clearly inspired by the Tuesday Murder Club, this book inculdes three unlikely sleuths who are unknown to each other at the start of the book. We get to know them as they get to know each other. One is young, one is middle aged, and one is nearing 80. They are a good mix and work well together at solving the murders involved. The books other inspiration cannot be mentioned without spoiling the solution. It will be interesting if the author can overcome the usual problems with cozies...how many murders can this town and this group experience. The reader was excellent with distinct voices for the 3 main characters.

Delightful Murder Mystery

Fun
story of three charming older women who become amateur detectives to solve a series of murders in their small otherwise quiet English countryside.

Fun and compelling suspense

This is my first book by Robert Thorogood. It was a delightful mystery with great characters, twists and turns, humor and suspense. The narrator captured the essence of the main characters and seemed to be having a good time!

Fantastic story and narration!

the narration was unbelievably good. better than reading. I felt I was watching a play or movie instead of listening to a book. nicoleyte MacKenzie was superb with all her voices. story was very good but the narrator made it spectacular

Jolly romp..

Expected nothing less from the writer of Death in Paradise series, enjoyable murder mystery, and the surprise of women's friendships.

It was just okay

I really liked the characters in this, but it seemed a little long. I didn’t care for the rehashing throughout. I didn’t like the way the mystery was revealed. I got this on sale, so it was worth the half a credit. I don’t think I’ll read any more of these though (if there are more Marlow mysteries). The narrator was good.

So glad I listened!

Oh my goodness! Where to begin? It’s rare that I am completely enchanted by a book from beginning to end but Judith and her friends definitely caught my fancy and then held it. The mystery is not particularly deep but the character development is wonderful. There’s humor and kindness and homicide.
