Publisher's summary

FBI Agent Laurel Evertson's investigation into a scam targeting the elderly takes an unexpected twist when key evidence leads her to Morton Wilmington, a felon she arrested five years ago on her first undercover assignment. That case has haunted her since, and though she's vowed to forget Wilmington - and what she sacrificed to put him away - he is now her best lead.

Houston Police Officer Daniel Hilton fears his grandparents may be the scammer's next targets, and he'll do anything to protect his family - even force interagency cooperation. But he's quickly drawn to Laurel's empathy and zeal and agrees to follow her lead...even if it means teaming up with a felon.

As the unlikely trio uncovers evidence suggesting the scam is more extensive and deadly than they imagined, both Laurel and Daniel find themselves in the crosshairs of a killer. Together they must decide if they can trust Wilmington's claims of redemption or if he's leading them straight into a double cross.

Fantastic

I loved the story, the characters, and the narration. Twining fiction with the reality of crime against our elders felt important.

On the edge

What made the experience of listening to Double Cross the most enjoyable?

The different voices were extremely well done.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Constant twists and surprises. Who is/are the villain(s)?

Have you listened to any of Suzy Jackson’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

The first one.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made me tense with suspense.

Any additional comments?

The story keeps you guessing, but in the end, the denouement is wonderful.

Double Surprised

Really liked this one! The characters were strong, intertwined in a plausible way. Good Christian characters, no foul language, no sexual content. Interesting twists. A great story line. I loved Daniel's grandmother. She was awesome and the Dementia and Alzheimer approach was touching.

Narrator was good and diverse. Ready for my next listen by this author.

My favorite in the series!

What did you love best about Double Cross?

Loved the Christian aspect, which is my favorite part, but the "who done it" was very intriguing. Well written, not as much violence as the first book in the series, and the narration was great again!

Stayed up half the night finishing it!

A real page turner interwoven with faith, intrigue and the power of Christ to change the most unrepentant of sinners. Great storyline. Kept me engaged the entire time.

Subject close to my heart

I helped care for my father with Alzheimer’s, then years later, I cared for my husband with Alzheimer’s. Crimes against such vulnerable people are despicable. My only complaint about the story is the way the characters kept correcting the grandfather. Most of the time it’s best not to argue; let the Alz patient think you’re your father rather than agitate him by trying to convince him you’re the grandson he doesn’t remember.
