Publisher's summary

Michael Valentine, veteran and former member of an elite private military company, has been recruited by the government to conduct a secret counter-terror operation in the Persian Gulf nation of Zubara. The unit is called Dead Six. Their mission is to take the fight to the enemy and not get caught. Lorenzo, assassin and thief extraordinaire, is being blackmailed by the world's most vicious crime lord. His team has to infiltrate the Zubaran terrorist network and pull off an impossible heist or his family will die. When Dead Six compromises his objective, Lorenzo has a new job: Find and kill Valentine. Killing, death, and some killing

That is the first half of the book. If you can get through that, the second half is a lot better.

No Holds Barred

This trio of artists; the writing and performing, is intense, fast paced, and scary. Scary because this fiction convincingly reveals the dark underbelly of current events. Dead Six is a metaphor for the toxic mix of politics, business, and criminality existing behind the evening news. Listen and be amazed.

decent story hampered by a goofy narrator

story was good. the narrator did a few characters like they were cartoons and his speaking caedence for the first few chapters is stuttering and halting in the same way an exagerated captain kirk impression is. wouldnt pay money for this one but might be worth spending a free credit if you are so inclined

Modern army story

Any additional comments?

story going back and forth between the two characters were interesting. Didn't care much of the readers performance. The action taking place and whispering style of reading didn't match the story. Specially during the action sequences. I actually stopped listening and started reading the book myself.

Spectacular Story, Amazing Narration

Would you consider the audio edition of Dead Six to be better than the print version?

Did not read the book.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Fantastic story. The two main characters were cut from the same cloth but on opposite sides of the battle. I kept wanting them to join forces and hoped against hope that they would realize they were not that different from each other and team up.

What does Bronson Pinchot bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He did a tremendous job giving depth to each character. I especially liked how he was able to convey the depression/PTSD following battle. He also did a great job in really depicting the anger and frustration that the charters experienced. There was a sound effect where he would be shouting expressing their anger but at the same time being distant from the microphone so it didn't overpower your headphones. Bronson provided the best narration I have ever heard on audible and prompted me to write my first review on a book I've listed to on audible.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I laughed and at times felt the sadness and loss the characters experienced along with their anger and frustration in the situations that were out of their control.

Better than Expected!

I didn't know what to expect here. This book was recommended to me and I actually thought it was scifi. I thought it would be all the way to the half way punt when I realized that "Dead Six" wasnt some kind of matrix style VR thing. This is straight up warfare, like a Call of Duty game set in the world of today.

And I liked it.

It's been a really long time since I read a pulp military thriller. I gave up on popular fiction like Clancy or Cussler when I realized every book was the same. This has the thrills, a significantly more MA rating, and wasn't by the numbers.

I enjoyed the two main characters and how they had their own personalities, capabilities and interests. I liked the secondary characters although when you get into it you realize there aren't a ton of different characters, just the same ones over and over: techy, heavy gunner, their, hot lady who also can fight, rich criminal, etc.

And because there were so many characters the narrator starts to recycle voices. I've enjoyed this narrator before, but it seemed this time people were either nasally or gravelly.

I'm definitely going to read the next one.
