Publisher's summary

Michael Valentine, veteran and former member of an elite private military company, has been recruited by the government to conduct a secret counter-terror operation in the Persian Gulf nation of Zubara. The unit is called Dead Six. Their mission is to take the fight to the enemy and not get caught. Lorenzo, assassin and thief extraordinaire, is being blackmailed by the world's most vicious crime lord. His team has to infiltrate the Zubaran terrorist network and pull off an impossible heist or his family will die. When Dead Six compromises his objective, Lorenzo has a new job: Find and kill Valentine. As allegiances are betrayed and the nation descends into a bloody civil war, Lorenzo and Valentine must face off. Two men. Two missions. Only one will win.

A masterfull performance

Where does Dead Six rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Excellent, the narrator did an excellent job allowing to differentiate the characters.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Valentine, because I'm corny and identify with him.

Which scene was your favorite?

This question is a spoiler invitation, so I won't go there but the action scenes are very good.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Yes, see answer to previous question, sorry, but it was moving.

Any additional comments?

As a platinum subscriber for 3 years now, I have listened to a lot of audiobooks. The performance was excellent, it was very good, quality narration and quality story. The negative reviews appear to be more politically motivated than story related.Give this book a chance, it is worth it.

Riveting narrator brought a good story to life

I love Larry Correia's Monster Hunters series (the action, the stories, the description of all weapons, good dialogs, the romance), so I gave this book a try. The story is told in two protagonists (Lorenzo and Valentine) perspectives, which is interesting way to learn about them from each protagonist's perspective. I like the ending, and can't wait to read the next book.

The narrator Bronson Pinchot sealed the deal; he is excellent in all accents (northern, southern, Boston, middle east, Asian, and anything you can think of), male and female voices, expressing emotions, shouting, excitement, flirtation, embarrassment, etc, and make this story easy to follow, and engrossing from beginning to the end. I will definitely listen to other books by Bronson Pinchot with no hesitation!

Maybe better read than listened to

I enjoyed this book, and thought the narrator did a pretty good job with the material. This is a story that has 2 main male protagonists and they both speak in the first person. The problem is they are both North American with nondescript accents. So while the voices are pretty distinctive for all of the other characters, the two main characters sound pretty much the same. The change in POV is announced, but there were too many instances where I didn't know which character I was with until the content gave me a clue. This is no fault of the narrator, who is obviously skilled. I imagine that when the author describes a character with "no discernible accent", it kind of ties the narrator's hands. As a listener though, being 10+ hours into the book, and still not being able to really differentiate between the two main characters was almost enough to make me start listening to something else.

If you are not familiar with Correia's books...

..it's time to stop and listen. Larry's books are full of action; with twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat. His Warbound series was so exciting, that I went through it so fast to find out the resolution of the next conflict, that I had to relisten to the entire series at a more leisurely pace.

What I am saying is listen (or read) his books, you can't go wrong. Oh yes, congrats Mike on working with Larry. Good choice Larry.

Wonderfully read

Full of intrigue “Dead Six” offers non-stop action and adventure and a fair bit of gore to go along with it! Well written with an interesting plot, which will help you get past the characters which are a bit flat. If you’re looking to lose yourself in a fight scene or two I think you’ll enjoy this book.

The narration is wonderful with the different voices and the delivery (when the calm comes he slows down) it might be the best I’ve heard. Can I give him 6 stars?

Lots of action

I generally liked the book/story. At times a little convoluted. The narrator could've done a better job changing the voices of the two main characters. The similarity in vocal was very confusing

Good story, not thrilled by narration.

Story was good. Did not really care for the narration. Read lots of reviews about his wonderful use of accents to make the characters come to life. Personally I thought they were awful. Just about everyone who wasn't American sounded Russian. And annoying on top of that. At regular speed the characters seemed like they were dosed up on Valium or something. Better at 1.25x speed.Just my two cents, but would have been much better with a more subdued read. That said I still enjoyed the story

Good merc/Bad Merc

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

To some friends yes, to the faint of heart probably not

What other book might you compare Dead Six to and why?

Perhaps along the line of some of David Baldacci's stuff with a little Jack Reacher thrown in. Tight bands of mercenaries vs. evil genius vs. tight band of misguided government agents.

What about Bronson Pinchot’s performance did you like?

Everything. I have always enjoyed his readings but this one is especially creative and over the top (in a great way).

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Who can you trust?

Any additional comments?

A little spoiler alert. This is a complex story that is told from several point of view and takes a little while to understand the playing field. A lot of ground work gets layed out and it seems to be non stop action just for the sake of action, but develops into a great story.
