A different kind of Joe P as he doesn't work a Wyoming game warden case in this one. Rater, a mystery arises that makes it seem like their former foster child, April, might actually be alive after being thought dead six years earlier.

All the normal characters come to play in this tale. Joe seems like he's driving all over the state of Wyoming which is a really big state. Of course, there are really bad people doing bad things but Joe, aided by Sheridan in this one, work to solve the mystery as only Joe does.

Love this series!

Very descriptive writing, this story line made me tear up in sadness and in happiness in several areas in the book. Heartwarming ending! You don't have to listen to the entire series to enjoy this book, but it helps to bring everything into prospective. On to the next C.J. Box book in the series!

Riveting as always.

The Pickett series never disappoints. Keeps my attention from the first word to the last. Interesting settings and people. Love joe and Nate !

One of the best in the series

This is a strong outing in the Joe Pickett series, ranks as one of the best ones. The story has several interesting developments and the tension is well managed from beginning to end with some quality twists as well. Usual excellent narration by D. Chandler.

starting to fray

I've enjoyed this series, but it seems it's time for Mr. Box to move on. It's nice his characters have matured, that their interpersonal relationships have evolved . . . but they're really running out of variations of plotlines. And as with so many books in this genre, the author works too hard to create conflict via unreasonable characters in positions of power. These become cliches of the bad FBI agent, the corrupt local official, unrealistically bent and wrong and self-serving, largely to make the protagonist seem a strong, reluctant, righteous hero.

I do like the landscape in these books, though, which is most likely what brings me back.

Not my most favorite

I'll keep listening, but this one was just a little boring. The plot was a little too contrived.

Love the Joe Pickett Series

I really enjoy this series and I have read/listened to several of them. I especially enjoy David Chandler as the narrator. If you really like mysteries with good story lines, characterization, etc.; let me encourage you to consider trying this series.

Love my kindle, but this is the last time I try buying an audio version of a book - maybe asking for my money back.

Box book

Love all the authors stories. Makes the characters in the books seem so real. I will read more of his books.

Good story. Children are not always protected. April Keeley saved. Gangsters. Wrong and right thinking leading to wrong and right actions.
