Publisher's summary

Hoping to bring some Tinseltown money to the Valley, the mayor lures a movie studio to town to shoot their next production, a big-budget Western in the classic tradition. The star is none other than ruggedly handsome—and notoriously badly behaved—Thad Perry. When the mayor decides that someone needs to keep an eye on Thad so that he doesn’t get into too much trouble, Bernie and Chet are handpicked for the job.

The money is good but something smells fishy, and what should have been a simple matter of babysitting soon gets more complicated—especially when they discover that Thad has a mysterious connection to the Valley that nobody wants to talk about. What kind of secret could Thad have left behind when he went to Hollywood to seek fame and fortune? The only people who might know the answer have a bad habit of turning up dead before they can talk.

Still loving Chet

I continue to love this series and can't wait for more. Sometimes I think Chet is smarter then me, because he can at least keep some trains of thought going.

Collarful adventures

Would you consider the audio edition of A Fistful of Collars to be better than the print version?

Yes. The reader sounds like I'd expect Chet to sound.

What other book might you compare A Fistful of Collars to and why?

Any of the other Chet and Bernie books compare well to A Fistful of Collars because they are all fun.

Which character – as performed by Jim Frangione – was your favorite?

Chet

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When little Ziggy ran away and Chet kept him safe.

Any additional comments?

Thanks to Chet, I have a better understanding of what my own dogs are thinking.

It's a dogs life

These are well-crafted detective stories, from the perspective of the detective's dog. I own and love dogs and I am highly entertained by these

Chet and Bernie Rock

If you could sum up A Fistful of Collars in three words, what would they be?

Terrific Terrific Terrific

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

no - it isn't that kind of mystery - it is a fun quirky mystery

Which character – as performed by Jim Frangione – was your favorite?

Chet of course

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

yes

Any additional comments?

The review questions don't reflect what Chet and Bernie friends would want to say. The story from Chet's point of view is just too fun.

Still charming even if getting routine

I still enjoy this series because it is lightweight rather than serious. It is well-read, still has an interesting storyline, and the characters are still growing a bit. The stereotyping of the bad guys by ethnic preferences for weapon of choice in this one is a bit annoying and I hope future installments don’t continue this trend.

And, yes, I’ve bought the next one in the series and am looking forward to reading it.

Another wonderful Chet and Bernie mystery!

I love Chet and Bernie! This mystery was great. Chet’s narration is always funny. This book also had a great storyline with lots of twists and turns. Couldn’t put it down!

Classic Chet & Bernie

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Just love this series. This edition is traditional Chet & Bernie fare but always great listening. Narrator does a consistently wonderful job on the Chet voice and I can really relate to the dog characteristics. Chet reminds me of almost every dog I've had in my life. Highly recommend it.

Have you listened to any of Jim Frangione’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Listened to all of them. Love his voice.

Great series!

I love these light, funny mysteries! I have grown to love the characters. I’m starting to slow down with the last 3 books because I know I don’t want to wait a long time for a new one to come out. Give them a try!

Pretty good

It seems as the series moves along he feels like the graphic descriptions of odors get worse along with the language.

It’ll be a while before I listen to another one.

Basically Chet’s talking about old cases seems to be a majority of the book. At one time I found this entertaining, not so much now. In fact I find it somewhat irritating.

The funniest "dog's view of the world" ever

I am a cat lover not dogs, but this book makes Chet one of my favorite characters. His loyalty to his owner, funny way of "telling the story", good mystery and excellent narration by Jim Frangione are guarantees to put any future books in this series on my wish list.
