Publisher's Summary

A stunning debut thriller in the best-selling tradition of Scott Turow and John Grisham!

Alex Miller is a criminal defense lawyer leading the life he always imagined. At thirty-five, he is the youngest partner at New York City's most prestigious law firm, with a beautiful wife and a perfect daughter. When Alex's father suddenly passes away, Alex is introduced to Michael Ohlig, a rich and powerful man who holds an almost mythical place in his family lore. But Alex is surprised when Ohlig admits that he's in serious legal trouble, accused of crimes involving hundreds of millions of dollars. Alex agrees to take on Ohlig's defense.

Through the course of two trials, secrets are revealed that force Alex to question whether any of the people in his life are who they appear to be. Most importantly, he must decide whether the identity he projects to the world is the man he truly is or even wants to be.

With its powerful voice, pause-resistant tension, and strong cast of characters, A Conflict of Interest will captivate listeners right up to its electrifying conclusion.

    "Great New Author."

I'll admit I give up on so many audiobooks due to my tendency to allow my mind to wander. If a story doesn't grab me in the first 10 minutes, I am done with it. Not so with A Conflict of Interest. It got me right away and held my attention until the very end. The narrator was great but it is the author that deserves the praise. I look forward to Mr. Mitzer's future work.

    "Very good!"
What made the experience of listening to A Conflict of Interest the most enjoyable?

It was a pleasantly written story with enough technical information to keep it interesting but not too technical. It was a good story. I found it entertaining yet real from a legal standpoint, with enough twists to keep the listener on their toes! Will watch for this authors next one!

"Finally! A New Great Legal Novel"
Would you listen to A Conflict of Interest again? Why?

Lots of writers write about courtroom drama, but this is by far one of the best I've read in a long time. I can't write about my favorite part, but I'll just say this... exposure rocks.

Who was your favorite character and why?

    The wife.

What about David LeDoux’s performance did you like?

    He nailed it.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

    Exposure-the price we pay.

    Any additional comments?

    Loved it!!!!!

OK... during the read I kept muttering, "Damn! Didn't see that coming!"

Mitzner's plotting is magnetic. You know, the kind of story that keeps you listening in the driveway after the ride home? This story will create an interest that will conflict with whatever else you've got to do besides listen to the next part. It's hard to believe that the guy who started out with this novel fell so far apart with his next, "A Case Of Redemption." I'm glad that I gave Mitzner another chance with this novel but I'm still sorry I read the just barely redeemable succeeding book from this guy,

David LeDoux reads this gaggle of conundrums invisibly... which is to say he never intrudes, yet presents powerfully, which is an impressive talent. Conundrums? Over and above the essential legal mysteries here, the theme swirls around questions of family, fidelity, culture, and society's rules regarding actions and consequences. It's provocative questions will haunt you yet not subtract from the entertainment values.

"A man with no character seeks revenge..."

...on a man who did him no harm.
Alex Miller is a tall, attractive, brilliant attorney in one of New York's most prestigious firms. He is married to a beautiful woman who loves him passionately. They have a lovely and precocious young daughter. He goes all out to sacrifice all of this in order to further his career while pursuing another beautiful woman. But that's the best part of Alex.

In the end this is a story of revenge, yet Alex has never been harmed. He cheats, he lies, he whines, and then he destroys the life of a man who did him no harm.

To be fair, there are clever twists in the plot. But in the end we are left with a hero with no character. Worse still, he seems to have no hope of redemption.

    "A new Author"

I am always on the look out for a new author, so when Audible list a new author's first book on it's front page a jumped to get it. It is a fast paced court room drama that kept me interested. I must say I had the ending figured out differently than what the author did, so I was a bit surprised by the ending. The reader David LeDoux did a good job narrating the book. I shall be looking for Mitzner's next book.

    "WOW!"

Give yourself the best Christmas present ever;download this book and and listen while cooking and washing all those dishes. You won't even mind that others are watching good football or the original Scrooge on TV. Cannot believe that this is Mr.Mitzner's first legal thriller. He is a natural at this game and you will not be disappointed! Narration is equally as fine.

    "Amazing listen"

I enjoyed this one a lot, in fact I stopped early at red lights to make sure I could listen a bit longer! Some of the plot was foreseeable but there where many minor twists and turns that kept the book at a very good pace. It’s not a thriller in the typical sense, but that’s nice for a change, and you get more character development here. Looking forward to the next book from this author.
    Excellent narration.

    "Fantastic Book"

This book was great. Really interesting, lots of twists and turns in the plot. If you like legal thrillers and have at least a mild interest in New York Stock broker type stories, you will love this book. I couldn't believe it was this author's first book. It was also very well read by David LeDoux.

    "Legal thriller or emotional tedium?"
Where does A Conflict of Interest rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

    Upper quartile

What did you like best about this story?

    The court scenes

What does David LeDoux bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

    Classy performance

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

    Unjust deserts

    Any additional comments?

A very Grisham like story but marred by the American obsession to pad things out with tedious emotional introspection.

    "Multi-layered.."

What I liked about this debut was the twists and turns and the very real characterisations of American Law,on the downside I found some parts superfluous and drawn out especially the relationship with his wife up until the middle of the book.
Saying all that the pulling together of all the threads towards the end was masterfully done and without a doubt will be reading more by AM, during the last quarter I was hooked and unwilling to part with the telling for a moment..
