A stunning debut thriller in the best-selling tradition of Scott Turow and John Grisham!

Alex Miller is a criminal defense lawyer leading the life he always imagined. At thirty-five, he is the youngest partner at New York City's most prestigious law firm, with a beautiful wife and a perfect daughter. When Alex's father suddenly passes away, Alex is introduced to Michael Ohlig, a rich and powerful man who holds an almost mythical place in his family lore. But Alex is surprised when Ohlig admits that he's in serious legal trouble, accused of crimes involving hundreds of millions of dollars. Alex agrees to take on Ohlig's defense.

Through the course of two trials, secrets are revealed that force Alex to question whether any of the people in his life are who they appear to be. Most importantly, he must decide whether the identity he projects to the world is the man he truly is or even wants to be.

With its powerful voice, pause-resistant tension, and strong cast of characters, A Conflict of Interest will captivate listeners right up to its electrifying conclusion.

Critic reviews

"This outstanding first novel follows Defense Attorney Alex Miller and his young family through the grinding world of high-priced criminal defense in New York City, detailing what can happen to an otherwise nice guy. David LeDoux's minimalist narration style works well. He imbues all the characters with a distinctive sound and unique persona." (AudioFile)
"More twists than a California cloverleaf interchange." (Bookreporter)
"This gifted writer should have a long and successful career ahead of him." (Publishers Weekly)

Who Can You Trust

Got off to a slow start and went down hill from there. A story that had no excitement. Just another Guy, bored and looking for excitement. Not smart in life or work. What a waste a lot of time.

Strange naration

Usually the book was evenly read with great inflection and passing, but every so often there were a few words at a distinctly different volume and cadence, perhaps a voice-over?
The book was narrated by the character, with his self/dialogue, however his behavior was often destructive toward himself and others without a sufficient internal dialogue to support it.

Meh. Just a long waste of time.

There was a number of times during listening to this that I thought about just turning it off. It took a long time to get to any real conclusion and the whole time I was just thinking that there's no way this boring, whiny..."basic" character is in this kind of role and position. Just meh

Pleasantly unpredictable

For a first publication this was an awesome piece of work. The author doesn't assume that we are ridiculously stupid and actually fits the pieces of this mystery together very well. Surprisingly, there were a couple of twist that we didn't see coming and I was very impressed at the hidden foreshadowing.

well you can definitely get your Dramas worth

This read like a screwed up drama series more then a lawyer book. I had to listen to the end just to see what happened but all the stuff in the middle made me shake my head about 100 times. The 's pronunciation the reader uses will drive you insane but he did pretty well other wise. happy reading hope your enjoy it more then me.

Never saw it coming.

Me. Mitzner writes with a total understanding of courtroom procedure and makes sure the reader understands the what and the why of the different legal steps he takes. The narration is done with emotion and feeling, further helping the listener understand the emotion the author is wanting us to feel. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys good courtroom drama and legal maneuvering at its finest. The ending was superb.

Riveting

I was hooked on this book from the first chapter. It certainly had a lot unexpected twists
and turns. It kept my attention to find out what would happen next. I have to say that the narration was great. I would recommend this book and I will look for more books by this author and more read by this narrator.

Somewhat slow and predictabkr

I started the book with a lot of anticipation. It started off well with a Securities fraud case that has an anti climatic ending - won by evidence obtained by illegal means.

Then the second case starts and ends with a predictable conclusion. I kept waiting for a twist - there was none in either case.

In the end the author provides an evidence - a suicide note, which the writer does not want to be revealed. So it is a suicide note or not? May be that's the conflict of interest.

Overall an ok book.
