Publisher's summary

Miss Adeline Hayes is the perfect lady’s companion: pleasant, conversational, and unceasingly proper. But when her closest friend, Charity Edgeworth, breaks off her arranged marriage without explanation, even Adeline’s superior skills are put to the test. Charity’s father banishes the two young women to the country, sending Adeline with a charge to find Charity a husband - or suffer dire consequences.

As Adeline takes on the role of reluctant matchmaker, she discovers more than one obstacle in her path. Not only does Charity prefer escaping in books to socializing, but Adeline soon finds her own attentions distracted by the standoffish - and irritatingly handsome - Mr. Evan Whitfield. Amidst an eventful foxhunt and the unexpected arrival of Charity’s former betrothed, Adeline simply doesn’t have time for a battle of wits with Evan. But the two are continually drawn together until Adeline begins to question her tightly guarded convictions about love and marriage.

However, when secrets are revealed and truths made known, Adeline must face her most fearsome obstacle yet: herself.

I appreciated how human -- and flawed -- the lead character was.

I sometimes could not tell which character the performer was voicing, particularly when it came to the men.

Great story idea- narration needs work

I loved the story idea but couldn’t adjust to the narrators style. Same cadence and tone . Not much difference between character voices.

Such a sweet story!!!

This was a clean, sweet and romantic story that I didn’t want to put down. I loved every minute of it. I hope this will be a series. The writing was terrific as was the narration. A true pleasure.

Couldnt put this one down!

Loved this clean regency romance from start to finish. The story has such good tension that I found myself needing to listen to it all the time. All the tension and frustration builds to one of the best kiss scenes I have read in a clean romance! I would recommend this book and adiobook to anyone who likes a suspenseful clean romance with several twists and turns.
The narration was wonderful.

Great Story, Rough Narration

I wish I had read this book first instead of listening.

When the book first started, I thought that the first chapter was set in the past, with how young and high-pitched the narrator’s voice was..

But no— it remained this way the entire book and I struggled to get into the story because of the narrator.

The story itself was captivating. Please find better narrators!! Your books are worth it!

Enjoyable story suffered from narration

I enjoyed the story. But the narration didn’t fit the characters. I believe the narrator may be Australian, leading to some odd pronunciations. I never adjusted to her voice. Far too high and adolescent for the characters.

Great story!

I agree with another reviewer that the story was very good, but the reader could improve her delivery skills. I adjusted to her slightly Australian accent that I heard come through from time to time, but the lilt of her voice as she delivered lines seemed to be “one note”.
To the author: I struggled a bit accepting that the protagonist would be able to lie as she did to her best friend. She was a young woman of such exemplary character in all other areas, I found it hard to believe she hid the letter and did not keep her word to George with such ease. Secondly, I listened to a more recent book of yours (at least I believe it’s more recent), and your similes have improved over time. They seemed previously used or underdeveloped in this story whereas in the novel, “A Heart Worth Stealing” your similes paint more vivid pictures. I enjoyed them a lot in “A Heart Worth Stealing”.
Also, characters “sigh” a lot. That was a bit overdone.
Aside from these comments, I did enjoy this story; just not as much as I enjoyed “A Heart Worth Stealing.”

would have been better with a different narrator

I struggled with this narrator. From peculiar pronunciations to the vocal inflections and the high pitch of Evan's voice, I found the narration to be very distracting from an otherwise pleasant, clean, predictable and enjoyable story.
