Publisher's summary

"Steve West gives a lively performance of this fantasy/romance, voicing each mortal, immortal, and undead character with the requisite humor, sarcasm, and sinister whispers."- AudioFile

From Olivie Blake, the
New York Times bestselling author of The Atlas Six comes Masters of Death, a story about vampires, ghosts, and death itself!

Viola Marek is a struggling real estate agent, and a vampire. But her biggest problem currently is that the house she needs to sell is haunted. The ghost haunting the house has been murdered, and until he can solve the mystery of how he died, he refuses to move on.

Fox D’Mora is a medium, and though is also most-definitely a shameless fraud, he isn’t entirely without his uses—seeing as he’s actually the godson of Death.

When Viola seeks out Fox to help her with her ghost-infested mansion, he becomes inextricably involved in a quest that neither he nor Vi expects (or wants). But with the help of an unruly poltergeist, a demonic personal trainer, a sharp-voiced angel, a love-stricken reaper, and a few high-functioning creatures, Vi and Fox soon discover the difference between a mysterious lost love and an annoying dead body isn’t nearly as distinct as they thought.

excellent performance by narrator

i didn't know what I was getting into but I can't hate on a good story. it was entertaining, sacrilegious, and woke. It wasn't at all what I expected and it was intriguing.

Interesting but Confusing.

I don’t think this book is made to be an audiobook. There’s so many characters and although the performance was great, it just got very confusing every now an then with THAT many characters talking all at once.

Great story! Weird whiny female voice attempt

The story itself was a unique and great! My only qualm was the narrators version of female voices… breathy and whiny and honestly frustratingly hard to listen to. Male voices were fine, obviously.

Besides the above, I’d recommend the book for people who like a bit of unique fantasy/mystery stories.

Steve West is hilarious!

Masters of Death is one of the most interesting books I have read this year. The synopsis provided does not do this book justice. The only way I can think to describe this book is the combination of Good Omens, the banter of Schitt’s Creek & (for Vi, specifically) Santa Clarita Diet – yes, it’s wild. Masters of Death is an urban fantasy with multiple timelines, a non-linear plot, and a fun cast of characters. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a discussion on immortality/afterlife, and a very unique read. Steve West did such a great job with this narration, he captured each character perfectly and had me laughing the whole way through.

This is a book where you have to trust the process. Blake is going to share pertinent information when she deems it necessary and not a moment sooner. It has been about a month since I finished Masters of Death and I truly miss the characters & the relationships formed. This is one book I am excited to re-read and catch all the information I may have missed before.

A complete original

I loved this book!! I really enjoyed how it is written and I can’t wait to read more from Olivie.
The narrator wasnt my favorite, but he did a great job distinguishing between characters. And some characters weren’t meant to be liked so I think the narrator overall made good choices on the different characters.

Loved it loved the story loved the mashing of worlds

I loved everything about this book and I was so taken with all of the characters… was anyone else kinda stuck on the accents though? Even if he was trying to differentiate.. and all of the voices did sound different but… all the accents ended up sounding…Spanish/Portuguese reminiscent

Perfect

This book is a work of art. There is such a beautiful quality to Olivies writing. It makes you feel every gambit of emotion. I loved this book. It gives Neil Gaiman vibes and the narrator was great! Would have loved a female narrator as well but he did a good job giving each character their own voice and they were easily distinguishable.

Amazing!

I love when a book is so descriptive that it plays like a movie in your head. It shows clips and pieces, just enough to keep you engaged and reveals just a bit so you can play the game. Unbelievable writing! Olivie has done it again! Officially one of my favorite authors! Incredible! I have love for each and every one of the characters, so many beautiful moments and stories throughout each of their backgrounds and a beautiful wrap up and how each stories interlock. If you read any boom this month, let it be this one!
