Publisher's summary

It has been prophesied that four men, raised as brothers, will bring Scotland back to her rightful glory. It is time for the second to take up his sword.

When a Highland warrior fights, he fights for honor. And when Reeve MacAlpin sees a beautiful stranger surrounded by bandits, he does not hesitate to do the honorable thing and dispatch her would-be assailants. But at her first grateful touch, his instinct to keep her safe is surpassed by a longing to keep her close...and to fulfill her every desire.

For as long as Tara can remember, she has lost the people she loves most - a curse that is sure to doom anyone who shows her kindness. She can never love without bringing death - and though her powerful Highlander champion tempts her beyond imagining, she fears that to give herself to him means his downfall. And yet she knows she must tempt Fate...for to resist him would be just as unthinkable.

sexy and sweet

This.is.my favorite out of the first two books. I found Tara and Reeve, passionate and strong. Reeve on particular on both fronts. There are also little clues through out regarding, secret talents, and the identity of the true king! Listen and see of you can hear them too.

JUST NO!

First, I know many people love Antony Ferguson, but I am not one of them.
I couldn’t even finish because his “female” characters don’t even sound human..
The story was just boring. Tara drove me Crazy. Drama queen personified…
Sad to see so many books I’d love to listen to are “read” by Antony.
This was my third book hoping I might have gotten him wrong but, Nope.
Win some. Lose some. Moving on.

Terrible

I very much liked the first book of this series so picked up book 2. I quite soon discovered that I was re reading book one with similar events, beautiful woman in distress and warrior to the rescue. The subsequent story tells of a very immature, ever horny warrior whose entire purpose, seems to me, in his pursuit of the damsel is trying to get her in his bed. I think that the warrior is confused about love and lust.

Reeve epitomizes the macho man warrior with a healthy, and annoying, dose of arrogance. He claims that he is always right, and therefore all should listen to his posturing. His possessiveness of Tarah more underscores his lust for her than a true love. I would wager that in five years she will be hoping that the curse were true and that she could be rid of him.

There were times, (every other page), that I thought that I was reading pornography rather than a highlander romance novel. There were so many gratuitous sex scenes that it drove the “romantic” aspect right out of one’s mind and I hoped that the king would succeed in capturing Tarah for a good while so that something new would happen. And I kept confusing Tarah with Marah, which I found quite annoying.

I will read the next two books in the series in order to discover who the true king is but I hope that the next books are not a different version of the first book.

Nothing New

I love Highland Romance but this one is sooooo repetitive trying to tell the story that it is frustrating to listen to. Choose something else narrated by Ferguson, he's terriffic.

sappy, redundant writing

The narrator Anthony Ferguson is excellent as always. The story is childish, repetitive, and ludicrous.
