Publisher's summary

Jude Johnstone and his photographer buddy Grover once traveled together for magazine articles. Times have changed. Jude is now a tabloid reporter in Miami, and Grover runs a dying camera store. Then Jude gets a tip leading to the location of a disappeared Powerball winner of $900M, and finds him in hiding in a South Beach penthouse.

Howard Rosen was a bowling alley accountant who has erased his identity with the plan to reemerge a hero after financing a coup against a corrupt Caribbean island dictator. He hires Jude to find his possible son...or is it just a young man claiming to be his son on Union? He instructs Jude to find out, and help islanders resist the governor, with an unlimited budget and the lure of a fake reality show to infiltrate.

What happens next is anything but predictable, though, as a storm approaches. And if he and Grover fail to beat the opposing tribe? They're shark food!

Fun story!

This was a fun and an unpredictable story! Did this actually happen?!

Very nicely read by narrator.

Poorly researched narration.

An okay story but the blatant mispronunciations of the narrator are consistently annoying. Grenada, Bequia, Rasta, to name a few. But the worst is while reciting stats about the island, he reads the territorial/economic limits (nm) as nanometers instead of nautical miles. Especially since 1 nautical mile equals 1,852,000,000,000 nanometers. Sloppy and unprofessional... do a little homework. I tried it because it was free and finished it because I was in a long roadtrip and was too lazy to search for a new book.

Fun Listen!

Lottery Island by Jonathan Lowe is an entertaining listen. The fact that it's based on a true story is more intriguing. I found the characters in this book to be original. Tom Lennon is great performing this book. He adds the right emotions to his voice. I requested this review copy audiobook and have voluntarily written this review.

Solid story!

I've always enjoyed this author, particularly for his top-notch writing style. Great story. You've got no choice not to believe it, because the premise actually happened! An ambitious journalist sets to track down the world's luckiest 2-time lottery winner having erased his identity, but when he does, he finds the stakes are much greater than a big scoop in a tabloid.
Highly recommended!

ehhhhh

pretty good story, I think. I should've read it as the narrator really ruined the experience. so much potential but I got tired of rewinding the same parts after I lost focus due to the monotone, poor character speration, and mispronunciations. I really hate to speak ill of anyone, but this audiobook was awful. maybe someone else would feel otherwise.

Slow. Very slow. Like a 3rd graderreading in class

Reader was very hard to like. It was difficult to follow his monotone-like voice. Practicing different dialects prior to performance should have been an impotant task, but is evidently not. Got to chapter 15 and said, "forget it." If someone else records this story, I might listen (if it is also free). But, it was a free audiobook. Can't expect much. You get what you pay for.
