rc bray rocks it

Don't listen to a lot of this genre, but rc bray can read me the phone book and I would listen.

The story was pretty straight forward. the list of who done it was always long and left me guessing on a few of them.

I don't think this series is going to win too many literature awards, but solid entertainment for a many hours.

hilarious cheeky with perfect narration

Not highly action packed like Orphan X or Gray Man but still well paced with fun and different cases. A lot of dry humor and smart ass banter with relatable characters. I've been listening to all the more serious, tons of action packed thriller mysteries, spy/special ops/black ops, & military/post apocalypse type series (Orphan X, Hell Divers, Extinction Cycle, the Carter Blake series etc.) quite a bit lately and this is more laid back but not slow at all with appropriate suspense. And there's not a lot of gory details when describing fight scenes - while I don't mind details I've read some people don't like excessive descriptions of people getting shot, bones broken & the like. Couldn't stop listening! Finished it in less than a week, listening for hours every day. Looking forward to checking out Blake's other series! Only con is some characters were very stereotypical but Black is most definitely not. As an artist, I was slightly offended for .2 seconds but I understand this is a book lol.
Also - who doesn't love R.C Bray?! He perfectly reads everything IMHO!

Great characters, both human and feline. Black, a former musician turned private eye, barely gets by. He solves his cases with the help of his assistant, his homicide detective friend, and a little alcohol on the side.

One of my favorite!

This was a perfect combination between author and voice actor! The series moves quickly, and the characters are well-defined. I want book five to come out in audio.

A great listen!

Whitty and entertaining, great narrator and an enjoyable use of 29+ hours. Caused me to laugh out loud at some spots--you go, Roxie!

loved all four books. each story was unique but part of a series. RCBray has a special talent for making you feel right there in the story and makes the funny parts even better. want more!

I only bought this 4 book set because it was on sale. I had never heard of Russell Blake or the Black series. It has been a very delightful surprise. His writing is very amusing. I found myself giggling to myself on more than one occasion. The books are a bit tongue-in-cheek like Detective Marlow (for those of you old enough to remember him). Better than expected

Picked it on a whim and have to say I enjoyed the listen. Nothing deep here but a fine way to relax.

Great series

Very well written stories performed by an even more amazing narrator. Love the banter between some of the main characters, had me cracking up frequently!

Best of the four, so far, in my opinion

Although the story line is pretty outlandish, it’s good fun. And the humor is getting to be more enjoyable. I think I’ll go ahead and get the next one.
