Publisher's summary

Carson Newman doesn’t wear tracksuits. He doesn’t have a consigliere or operate out of the back room of a restaurant. And as evidenced by his ever-growing Boston empire, he doesn’t get his hands dirty. Usually.

Joe DeMarco, on the other hand, is paid to get his hands dirty. So when John Mahoney, the former Speaker of the House, calls, DeMarco knows it’s time to get to work. Brian Lewis, an intern for Mahoney, has been found dead, seemingly from a drug overdose. But Brian didn’t seem like a drug user, and even more concerning, he seemed to be on the cusp of releasing a report that identified a group of politicians who had taken bribes in helping dismantle a recent bill.

Brian’s mom is convinced that Brian was murdered because of what he’d learned, and it doesn’t take long for DeMarco to come to a similar conclusion. In a city full of shadowy agreements and duplicitous deals, DeMarco will soon learn that to get to the bottom of Brian’s death, he’ll have to look at people perched the very top of the world.

17th book in the outstanding De Marco series. Politically accurate, thrilling, humorous. Try one book, you'll be hooked!

Another DeMarco gem!

The combo of Lawson’s writing and Joe Barrett’s performance is magic. No Emma in this volume, which was missed, but the story was fast paced, engaging, humorous and highly entertaining! Thank you Mike Lawson for being so consistent and creating characters that feel like familiar friends!

Kingpin.

It was great and parts made me laugh. How the story followed today’s political scene and how crooked it is. Good read.

Mike Lawson, Joe Barrett and Joe DiMarco never Disappoint!

I only wish there could be more than one book a year, but quality trumps quantity.

One of the best DeMarco books yet!

I love the DeMarco series! Mike Lawson does not disappoint with Kingpin. His mixture of goid plot & wonderful humor does not disappoint. DeMarco has graduated to the big leagues in this one - he gets by without Emma's help. It's like he's an adult now - almost! Joe Barrett does a stellar job of narration. He does DeMarco perfectly! Mr. Lawson - plz hurry as I can't wait for the next one!

Rich Characters Who Don’t Disappoint

Lawson knows how to spin interesting stories around a cast of good regulars and new additions … both good and evil. The end is rather predictable but the means, not so. The end is also quite satisfying and unlike many other series novels - it’s quite complete. The narration is excellent.

Great Book & Series

I have read all of the Demarco series and I would rank this book in the top 3-4 of the series. Great read!

DeMarco + Barrett = 5 STARS!!!!

I am a huge fan of the Joe DeMarco series by Mike Lawson. I have all of the books in this series and if I know in advance this is one of the series I will actually preorder. There aren’t many but this one is a no brainer for me.
I agree with Empress Karen about Joe Barrett’s narration. He is One of the Best! I just wish he would narrate more books. I will buy books from authors I’m not familiar with when I see his name.
Ditto for the Brian Haig books. All of them are fantastic and he’s another one I wish was a little more prolific.

In this book DeMarco is assigned the job of looking into the death of one of John Mahoney’s (former Speaker of the House) interns it appears he’s died from an overdose. His mother insists that he was murdered because he had found proof of politicians accepting bribes. DeMarco initially dismissed her claim but the intern’s laptop is missing and when it’s finally found after supposedly being forgotten at a cafe it’s been wiped clean of all incriminating evidence. DeMarco knows something is off and starts a real investigation putting his own life in jeopardy.

This book has my VERY HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION!!

Why A Full Credit??

Hello I am a fan of this author and own the entire series. I love narrator Joe Barrett, see author Brian Haig, Sean Drummond series and laugh your head off. That series is my fave. If you liked this author’s book 4 House Secrets, then this book is right up your alley. If you are new to this series find one of the other stories that features Emma as this one does not but does have heaps of new characters that do not disappoint. If like me, you are tired of 15 hr mysteries that do not entertain and make you laugh out loud as in an Elmore Leonard novel, then you will spend a credit on any new Lawson release, laugh be entertained and count it as a good spend. If you are meager on credit spends, note this is a Dreamscape production and they do not seem to have economies of scale other production companies have, hence the price vs credit decision you will have to make.
