Aprilyne Pike's debut, Wings, is the first in a saga that follows Laurel, a high school girl who's coming-of-age story differs from most girls her age when she discovers her true self; she's a fairie! This blend of teen drama and supernatural fantasy presents its own universe with a unique take on fairie folk that will intrigue young listeners. In her performance, Mandy Siegfried sets the tone of the series blending confusion, wonder, and burgeoning romance as Laurel's identity grows and she must choose between the fairie and human in herself and in potential boyfriends.
In this extraordinary tale of magic and intrigue, romance and danger, everything you thought you knew about faeries will be changed forever.

"Fine escapist fare, this neatly mixes the everyday with the otherworldly." (Booklist)
"In the current crop of supernatural romances, this one stands out. Silky narration...delicious escapism." (Kirkus Reviews)
Not sure what to say here. It reads like a lighter take on Twilight. I did not like that book, so I do not enjoy this one. There is some potential with the story, but it definitely was written for the tween set. Apparently Miley Cyrus is tapped to play the lead character in the movie version of this novel. If you like Hannah Montana I am sure you will like this.
Say something about yourself!
Yes it's a nice story anyone would enjoy
I enjoyed this book when I read it and loved the audio version, I love the narrators version of Tamani.
I love any story that has to do with fairies!!
Laurel she had quite a bit happen to her and her family and she was really a very strong character.
Wonderful voice!!! Just fantastic adapting to different characters!
Oh yeah!! I couldn't wait to get my credits so I could get to the next book!!
I love this series!!! My granddaughter recommended it so its fun to call her and talk about the books!!! Considering I'm a librarian and order Pre-school thru Teen books!!!
I think the narrator did a fantastic job bringing the characters to life! I have listened to this more than once and really hear each person
I love Tamani! How can you not with that great accent and passion?
Each character is so distinct!
I think the first time Laurel meets Tamani. To find out what she is and realize her connection to him.
If you like Twilight, you will like Wings. Give it a chance and you will be hooked. It is a different supernatural, but just as fun with a great love triangle.
EOD wife and loving mother!!!
I'd say so. It was a little corny, but still worth reading.
I still don't have a good image of what her flower looks like.
I stopped when I had 1/2 hour left to run to the computer to see if this was a series. I enjoyed it so much I do not want the story to end. I want the rest of the series downloaded before I finish this one. I hope the rest of the series is as enjoyable as this one. I found it believable the teenage main character is afraid of what was happening to her (tumor? cancer?) then not wanting to accept her new reality until finally having scientific proof that she is not human explained to her by her new friend. Her reasoning for not going to her parents and later the police are also very believable. I found the frustration by the main character in not being able to find out useful information on the internet interesting as I totally relate. I liked the main characters immediately (very important to me). I am 58 - not a teen myself, but I found I really related to her being thrown into a new environment as a new kid in school. Excellent narrator. Kathy
I like happy endings and realism that is realistic rather than gritty.
Brilliant mixture of science and magic. The book is also a smooth mixture of genres. It starts as a new-kid-in-town teen high school story (AKA romance), but the mystery and danger slowly ramp up into a good-vs.-evil action adventure. If the book hadn't included the usual boring love triangle, I'd have given it 5 stars. Great story all around.
"No more vampires yay"
If like me your fed up of vampires then read it. It has all the thrill of twilight but with a lead character that doesn't have depression and is believable.
My fave bit was when the two lead characters end up fighting for there life in a river.
"Wonderful debut novel"
Stephenie Meyer described this book as a "remarkable debut" which I admit influenced me to give it a try. The synopsis also caught my interest. Well, now I can add my own recommendation to Stephenie's. Wings is beautifully written with strong characters. It has just the right balance of magic, danger and romance and moves at a steady pace without ever feeling dragged out or rushed. The author's fairy world is well imagined and beautifully described. This is indeed a modern fairytale of the best kind. I'm eagerly awaiting the sequel.
"A Fairy Tale With An Interesting Twist"
Forget everything you know about Fairies when you read this debut novel by Aprilynne Pike, as you follow Laurel's seemingly ordinary life with a few exceptions to the routines of many teenagers and discover with her of her destiny.
Recommended hightly by Stephenie Meyer and myself by saying this is a unique twist on everything you have ever known about fairies, and beginning of what I have come to believe a four part series. Wonderfully imaginative and engrossing you will be dying like me to find out what happens next.
