Enough with the potty humor.

My first impression of this book was that it was well narrated, light and amusing, and I would probably listen to the entire series. Yay. What fun. By the time the book was over, I realized that I just wasn't up for any more potty humor and, since it was pervasive in this volume, I see little reason to expect it to be absent from further ones. Too bad. If I had to hazard a guess, I would say that the book was aimed at a stereotypical preadolescent boy's sensibilities.

Even with the too-much-bowels caveat, the story does, ahem, move right along and the narrator is very good.

Fun

I realize this is a kids book (sort of) but I enjoyed it immensely. Gave a new, interesting, and funny take on mythical creatures. Most certainly worth a quick and lighthearted read.

Fast-paced and witty!

We were pleasantly surprised by this series! As Harry Potter lovers, it's hard to find anything that measures up, but this was completely original! It's also hard to find stories that are just as entertaining to the adults in the house, as the children. I found myself giggling, and wanting to find out what would happen next!

First of all, the narrator is fabulous! He is nearly as good as Jim Dale, and that is high praise. He does all of these great accents, and gives the characters different voices.

The story is basically faires meet Bourne Identity! Sounds strange, but you actually get so caught up in all of the scenes, that you forget that the characters are centaurs, etc. Since I love imagination, I was delighted, when litte tidbits were thrown in as you went along, that reminded you of the dilemas that these mythical creatures might face. I also love witty humor, and this book has it's share of that!

Character/moral issues: Okay, so Artemis starts out a bad guy, and you really aren't entirely sure who to root for...but for slightly older children, it isn't that big of a deal....and I love how Artemis slowly gets a conscious, as the series goes along.

The drawback to these stories: the language. Okay, so it's not horrible: a damn here and a hell, there...but honestly, I don't know why the author would include this kind of language, in a children's story! Not necessary.:(

The characters are lovable! Butler is awesome! I came away wanting a "Butler"!
Lots of fun, overall.

Great start to a great series

Artemis Fowl is one of my favorite all time characters. Greedy, egocentric, and a genius, his character makes love this series. My kids and I listen to this while driving and sometimes we just sit in the driveway so we can keep listening. This is a keeper.

overall quite good

Could use more details and character development but is still quite nice. Great for kids because it can keep eve young ppl interested as well as isn’t be for adults needing some more fantasy/ action to distract them.
