Publisher's summary

The brutal murder of 10-year-old Callum Bradley sent shockwaves across Scotland, but as the weeks have stretched on with no solid leads, the investigation has been scaled back. Sergeant Don Colyear, community police officer, is tasked with tying up a loose end: a 999 call which may have hinted at the boy's murder.

However, the call was made three weeks before the crime took place. The caller turns out to be a resident at an Edinburgh care home, drifting in and out of lucidity due to dementia - enough to write off the potential lead as a dead end. But when a fresh murder disturbs the city, the clock is ticking path to catch a violent killer.

Fantastic in every way!!

What a great author and narrator! I can’t wait for the next book. He entwines the mystery and police work with touches of humor. I actually laughed out loud at some of the statements. I have thoroughly enjoyed his books. I just hate when the end comes. I will follow Stuart Johnstone carefully!!!

Excellent!

I have listened to books 1 and 2, and can't wait for 3,4,5 etc. Tragically inept and brilliant all at the same time, mixed with a little attitude, sarcasm and, yes, a little creepiness, makes this guy hard not to like. The narrator, Mr. Monteath, brings everything to life brilliantly. Give this new series a listen. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Satisfying New Series!

I can’t imagine reading this novel and missing out on Monteath’s narration. I just love Sgt. Don Collier and all his idiosyncrasies and the narrator brings him to life with the best Scottish brogue ever. The plot line follows a long and winding road that is difficult to predict-which I love. My only criticism of this second novel in the series is that I hated dividing air-time between Collier and Cane. Although switching from 3rd to 1st person to differentiate the two characters’ experiences is unique, I found myself anxious to return to Don’s journey. I recommend it if you enjoy detective thrillers with humor thrown in for good measure!
