Publisher's summary

Revenge is a dish best served...ice cold.

While beach combing on MOD property, two young boys stumble across a reeking mound of tangled kelp. But it isn’t the seaweed that stinks. It’s the decomposing corpse beneath it.

Called in to investigate, DCI Evan Warlow’s team are faced with finding out how and why the body of a struck-off doctor ended up on a lonely beach within sight of Laugharne’s famous boathouse.

But this is no innocent victim. This is a man with more enemies than friends. A fact that muddies the waters no end as Warlow unearths more and more of the dead man’s sordid history. Not to mention a long line of suspects.

With a killer in their midst hell-bent on achieving a deadly goal and determined to let nothing and no one stand in their way, the team need to be on their guard.

Unless they want to end up as victims, too.

Ice Cold Malice is the third book in the DCI Evan Warlow series of Black Beacons thrillers by Rhys Dylan. Set in the heart of wild Wales, this dark murder mystery tinged with wry humor and populated by true-to-life characters will keep you guessing. Perfect for fans of LJ Ross, JD Kirk. JM Dalgliesh, TG Reid, and Simon McCleave. Celtic noir with a spattering of dark humor.

Another interesting book in the series

It had a good story line and lots of twists and turns. The ending was a little difficult. The fact that the main character has HIV was okay but not an unpredictable storyline. I guess the author has an agenda maybe some personal history with it.

Non stop listen if you have the time

Interesting murder case, lots of new information about the main cast of characters and finally the big reveal regarding retirement. My only concern and it is minor, we have a potential stalker who wants to destroy Warlow. I am tired of this particular thread that occurs in many of our mystery series. Hopefully, it will remain a very minor plot line.

A good listen

I find this series half way between a cozy mystery and Stuart MacBride. Comfortable reading, real characters and believable story lines. Narration is clear and easy to follow.

5 stars for book no.3

As always, procedurals get better and better the further into the series you get. This one did not disappoint and I loved learning more about the characters that lives in this series. The plot was suitably captivating and I was surprised by the ending. Looking forward to the next one.

A pleasing balance of a well-plotted mystery…

…and well-developed ongoing characters. Naming the young, naive DC “Rhys” made me smile. I imagined the author smiling too as he gave him his lines. This narrator is lovely, particularly when those lyrical Welsh place names and phrases come so easily off his tongue. More Warlow, please. As I wait, I will look for other performances by Weatherburn.

Series just gets better.

Everything about this series gets better and better; even the slight over the top tea-and-cookie breaks.:)
So WHY are the rest not Audio??? So disappointed.

Sioerb plot layering

This carefully constructed book kept me guessing right up to the final chapters. Superb characterisation.
