Publisher's summary

“I’ve been searching a long time for you, Azrael.”
“And what makes you so desperate?”
“Because you’re the only one who can protect me.”

Peter and Michael are supposed to be retired. Living off the fat of their last job. But retirement bores them stiff.

That is, until they meet computer hacker John Harker, who begs for their protection before revealing that he has recently come into possession of certain “files” belonging to a secretive organization.

The two former assassins agree to harbor the eccentric—even if it’s only for the entertainment value. Skeptical of his “new world order” conspiracies.

But when Harker is murdered in their custody, the two find themselves wanted by both the police and several clandestine entities desperate to get their hands on the stolen files.

Fugitives of the law, Peter and Michael are in a race against time to find out what is in the encrypted files, and survive long enough to uncover a terrible plot that could change the balance of world power forever.

Great story and superb sequel

This was a great sequel to this interesting series. The plot is quite clever and beautifully delivered. The characters continue to be well developed and explored in the text. Finally, the narration is quite good. Highly recommended.

Another Great Book

I enjoyed this latest book in the Peter Black series. Kept me glued to my earbuds! When is the next one?

Fantastic series

Each book in the series gets better and better. At first, I was weary of the father and son duo, but it adds to the storyline. I have nothing negative to say at all, and would highly recommend this book and the rest of the books in the series.

The very deep and tangled storyline

Loving this series as Peter and Michael grow together. Also very strong narrator with a good grasp on accents.

Entertaining

The writing style has a feeling as though it should be pitched at the older teen reader. It’s action packed from beginning to end. Bigger than life but enjoyable.

Series is deteriorating along with narration

The first book in the series was the best, the second not bad, the third good enough the 4th well lets just say I won't be listening to a fifth. The character development has stalled, they are now just pawns to move the story forward so create a chance for another fight or chase, the reader is no longer connected with the characters. Oh there are moments but they aren't developed enough, just cursory and fleeting. The plot is not new, much of it 'reads' like an action movie with one fight or chase scene after another. The dialogue that the narrator did made me cringe. Adam Grupper's approach with dialogue is to be gruff, abrupt, dispassionate, rushed for all but Peter's character. It doesn't help the listener to connect with or cheer on Michael, Girl in Black, Knight, the tech ... Gruppers reading of the 'text' and not dialogue is good but he ruins it with his performance of any dialogue. Unlike the Orphan X or Grey Man series where the characters grow and there are more nuances to events this is a sledge hammer of a story pounding through the plot. I finished totally unsatisfied and even a bit pissed.

Lame

Peter black has become watered down. He is now an assassin with a conscious. This character has been ruined.

Awful, absolutely awful

This was the cheesiest spy thriller I’ve listened to in a while. There was not one redeeming quality about this book.
