Publisher's summary

An emergency call to pick up an injured stallion on the side of the road sends Alexandra Hart, the new owner of Hart's Horse Rescue, into action. A recent addition to the area, she is not impressed when the animal's taciturn owner shows up. With his less-than-stellar disposition, he’s the kind of man she normally avoids at all costs—unfortunately, he owns the ranch just down the road.

However, when the manhunt for a pair of escaped prisoners gets a little too close for comfort, Jonas turns out to be a better neighbor than she expected.

The Alex who shows up at his ranch to help with his prize stud’s recovery is not exactly who Jonas Harvey expected. This is the same bleeding heart he met on the side of the road. Worried she’s not up for the job, he’d prefer to keep a close eye on her but his High Mountain Trackers team gets called in to track down a group of domestic terrorists.

But the slip of a woman proves him wrong. On all fronts. Alex not only charms his horses but him as well, and when trouble comes calling she proves to be a worthy ally to boot.

Refreshing story of an older couple

I went in to this audiobook blind. I didn't read the synopsis about the book. Just bought it since I have enjoyed other audiobooks from this author. With that being said, I was pleasantly surprised. I freaking loved the fact the book was about older couples. Jonas is 50 and Alex is in her forties. It was so refreshing to see this dynamic. Most contemporary romance books are people in their 20's or early 30's.

I enjoyed the suspense of this book. Trying to figure out where the escaped convicts were hiding out and they were just under their noses. And then who on the outside was helping them. This book really kept my interest with the romance and the suspense.

Ada Sinclair was a new to me narrator and I enjoyed her rendition of Alex and Amma and the other female characters. Connor Crais is such a delight to listen to and I look forward to hearing more from him.

Fantastic Story & Listen🎧 Enthralling & Heartfelt

Freya Barker is high on my list of favorite authors, she writes stories from the heart and once you start one of her books nothing else around you matters except what is happening next and this book is no exception. Another thing that makes her books so special is the maturity of the characters, they are in a time of their lives where they know who they are as a person, set in their ways, some may be settled in their lives or starting over, but they know what they want even if they do not know what they are doing all the time which makes them all realistic, easy to relate to and connect with, they are easy to care about and fall for too. “High Meadow” is the first book in her “High Mountain Trackers” series and what a wonderful start to the series it is. The story takes place in the mountains of northern Montana and the High Mountain trackers are a specialized, mounted, search and rescue team, all former military from the special ops unit. Jonas Harvey is one of those trackers, he also runs his own horse ranch and when one of his prized horses gets loose and then found injured on the side of the road, he catches attitude with someone who responded to help rescue the horse and then just blows her off. Alexandra “Alex” Hart is new to the area, bought property to start a new business, Hart’s Horse Rescue. She goes out on a rescue call and the owner of the horse was already on scene. She could not even get a word in with the owner and her first impression of him was not the best and when she gets a call to help rehab an injured horse on High Meadow ranch, she was not expecting to see him again, Jonas. Tempted to leave but stayed for the horse’s sake, it did not take her long to learn that he is that not bad tempered and ill-mannered man as he first appeared, it also does not take long to find the chemistry between them is sizzling hot. I loved how everything played out in this book, it is a beautifully plotted story with lots of depth and layers. There is plenty of drama, angst, mystery, twists and turns, thrilling suspense, heartfelt emotions and steamy romance. Freya Barker, thank you for another amazing story and emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧 And for the fabulous narration, Ada Sinclair and Connor Crais are the perfect cast to bring these characters and story to life. They had a complete understanding of the characters they portrayed, gave each a voice that fit that character’s persona to a tee, sounding believable and just as I pictured the characters to sound. Connor Crais nails it as Jonas and plays a mighty fine, swoon worthy cowboy and a bad ass tracker. Ada Sinclair’s Alex is perfection as well, she grasps her strength and determination, as well as her smarts. Both were great performing the roles of the secondary characters too. You could hear how much heart these two put into their work as they captured all the character’s emotions and projected them into their performance and have you feeling every single one. These entertaining storytellers are versatile voice artists and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another fabulous listen!

And here I thought the Rock Point series was good!

Nonstop action, incredible narration, great story, and best of all, strong as hell heroine, paired with a larger than life hero. I always love it when the heroine saves the day😍. I’ve already downloaded Book 2, and hoping that Book 3 is released on Audible soon.

Love this story

From the setting, in Montana, to the characters and their jobs to the danger simmering just below the surface, I enjoyed everything about this book. I can’t wait to jump into the next book in this series.

Good story but too explicit

The overall story was very good, but the sex scenes were crude and too explicit. The female narrator was irritating in her exaggerated lilt especially in the first half of the book.

Beautiful, Suspenseful, Action Packed, Perfect!

Alexandra has loved, loved wholly, and then suffered heartbreaking loss. Jonas, former Special Forces and team leader of the High Mountain Trackers makes a horrendous first impression on Alex, and her second impression of him isn’t much better. That’s as far as I’m going with the plot details of this fabulous, suspenseful, action packed Freya Barker story! If you want a wonderful, beautifully written story with all the feels, engagingly human, REAL, well developed characters, and dialogue that rings one hundred percent true, this is where you find it. RIGHT HERE! An added bonus is the fabulous narration will keep you held fast until the last words are spoken. This one was magic. Absolute five star MAGIC and I LOVED it!

Great Contemporary

It is refreshing to read mature love stories. I don't often find this gem. Ms. Barker makes sure to foster mature HEA and I thank her kindly. Being in my late 50's I appreciate reading these books. I very much enjoyed Jonas and Alex's slow burn love connection. Ada Sinclair and Connor Craig did a wonderful job bringing this book to life.

Thanks to the dynamic writing of Freya Barker I pulling up stakes in Rock Point. I'm heading to Montana to snag me a perfectly aged cowboy tracker. There are just not enough well written "mature aged" sexy & suspenseful romances being written out there. I'm sure that I'm not the only one that hates it when you realize your latest book boyfriend (or girlfriend) is nearly or the same age as your grown children.

I ❤️ that Freya writes about older, strong & sexy characters. These characters are inspiring and written w/real heart.

The 1st book in the HMT series brings us to Montana. There we meet Jonas & Alex. We also meet many of the supporting cast of characters including Jonas father (he's my favorite)

Although, neighbors the couple hadn't meet yet. They don't officially meet until Alex is hired to help him with an injured horse. As they get to know one another we learn more about the HMT & what they do. We also learn more about Alex's rescue and all that she & Lucy do.

This book has it all action, adventure, suspense, sex, romance, family, friendship, cute critters, passion, strength & determination. I've already listened to the book at least a dozen times. I really cannot get enough of Connor Crais. He has worked his way into my top 6 book boyfriend list. Ava is no amateur she brings Alex's strength & depth to life.

With a credit? Absolutely! Especially. if u like we'll written mature adventure filled romances.
Please disregard the review that sad it is boring or the one that said sex scenes were too descriptive. No they were not.

that's all. Enjoy!!!
