Publisher's summary

Reluctant single dad. Arrogant villain. Cold-hearted heir. And the enemy of my brothers. I should hate him, so why can’t I stop wanting him?

Hawk McQuaid is not the guy who stays. He doesn’t do relationships. Especially not with the virgin amputee who accidentally became his nanny during an elevator mishap. But he’s wound himself around my heart.

And it’s the last place he should be. He’ll hurt me. It’s not even a question of if, it’s when. Because hearts like his don’t love…they destroy.

No Small Bet

Another wonderful story by Samantha Christy. Love the way characters within her other books are all intertwined together in this one. She is a master storyteller and this book won't disappoint.

Love & Redemption

This was my first book from this author, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I have a close friend with a prosthetic leg, & thought the issue was accurately addressed in this story.

From family enemies, playboy ways, & secrets to forever soulmates - love wins again!

Connor Crais’ voice can come across as flat & monotone, but it grew on me as the book progressed - & he became Hawk. Rose Dioro impressed me with her interpretation of Addison. I’ll likely listen to other books in the series if I like the narrators.

Hawk and Addy--loved their story

No Small Bet by Samantha Christy was a wonderful story. It was my 1st experience with this author. I found it while searching for books narrated by Connor Crais (he is my favorite). Connor and Rose Dioro (she was a new narrator for me) did a really great job of bringing the characters and all that they feel and experience to life. This story was funny, sad, inspiring, and hopeful. It was definitely worth the purchase. Just a few chapters in, I knew I wanted more of The McQuaid Brothers, so I purchased the 2nd book, No Easy Dare.

An unusual bet

Ermahgawd…I strongly disliked Hawke at the beginning of this book! True trust fund douchecanoe who just ‘loved and leave ‘em’ attitude. When he finds himself the sole parent of a newborn, whom he refuses to acknowledge, it takes a threat and bet from his grandfather for him to ‘man up’. Enter Addy, sister of Hawk’s arch enemy, and one of the sweetest ppl in town. Addy needs a job that will help pay for a new prosthetic and she is sort of bribes into taking the job as nanny to the baby. The baby that Hawk is determined nit to love. Surely Hawk could never redeem himself in my eyes! But as the book goes on, we see the subtle changes in Hawk and we spy an HEA coming. Until he screws up. I actually rooted for him in the end!! Loved the HEA!! Looking forward to the next book.

Awesome book

this was the first audible book I had ever listened to, and frankly I wasn't sure that I would like the transition from written word. the voice actors for absolutely amazing and I could run the picture scenario in my head of everything that was going on. Hawk and Addie and Rivi came to life as believable people. this book is so well written that I could identify with everyone; especially Addie, since due to a birth defectI have to wear braces and crutches to walk. I'm now going to look up and see if this author wrote any other books and I will buy them all.

Such a heart felt book

This is my first book that I’ve read from Samantha Christy, and I absolutely loved it. This book was romantic and funny. I could not put it down. I stayed up late to finish it, and I cannot wait to read more of her books. The narration was fantastic The male voice was so perfect for this character and can’t wait to hear Connor Crais voice on many more audiobooks. They just brought the book to life Rose Diore the female narration was perfect as well first time for both. I travel a lot for work so audiobooks are my favorite way to read books and listen to books I can listen to them on a plane driving there’s a lot of times these books are so well written like this one that you just can’t put it down and your picture. Earbuds in exercise do whatever and listen to a great book there’s nothing better. And with good narration, these books do really come alive. It’s like you’re seeing a movie in your head. This book is well worth the credit and I so hope Samantha does more audiobooks. I am so looking forward to listening to them.

Nice book

This book was a nice story, not stellar or anything, but the love story is “nice.”
Most of the sexy times take place behind closed doors, but the ones we do hear about are well written.

The narrators do a great job though.

Loved it!!

I couldn’t stop listening to this audiobook!! I stayed up way too late but it was worth it!

I hated the main male character - Hawke. He was throughout the book a huge jerk. All about money. He was willing to give up a baby he didn’t realize was his because he was selfish. With a bet from his grandfather makes him take his baby. Hawke needed a wake up call and that wake up call was the nice girl who was the little sister of his enemy and who also was his sisters best friend - Addy. She becomes the new nanny to his little girl because she happens to be in the wrong/right spot at the wrong/right time. Because she doesn’t put up with any of his crap and stands up to him they start to have a different relationship. She’s not like every other woman who only wants to get with him for his trust fund. She doesn’t care about his money.

Addy is a strong and determined woman. She lost part of her leg in a car accident. I love how she responds to everyone who asks her questions about her leg. I worried with what a jerk Hawke can be that he’d hurt her because of that. The way he treats her (regarding her leg) totally surprises me (a very pleasant surprise).

Samantha Christy does it again in this book where she breaks our heart but always puts it back together! I loved it!

These narrators were fantastic. They brought this story to life for me!! It was well worth a credit!

Hawk McQuaid and Addison Calloway

*****Spoiler Alert*****

KU borrow, listened to it via the Alexa app. (Update to my review: both narrators read well but Rose Dioro's multiple hard swallows were a bit distracting.) Dual POV. Book 1 in the McQuaid Brothers trilogy. Slow burn age gap, Romeo/Juliet, nanny romance. Content warnings: one-night stand leads to pregnancy, questionable paternity, and the death of the mother in childbirth; h left leg was amputated 4 years ago when she drove drunk and crashed after her brother's funeral; two families at odds over a few generations old bet; and a car accident with an infant in the backseat.

Hawk McQuaid (30) is the oldest of four siblings, manages one of his family's car dealerships, and is known to be a playboy bachelor who has no intention of settling down. When Hawk's one-night stand informs him that she's pregnant he insists she take a paternity test while pregnant, but she refuses so he doesn't believe the baby is his. When the woman who claims to be pregnant with his baby dies in childbirth Hawk's grandfather offers him a large increase in his trust fund if he claims the baby once paternity is confirmed and agrees to follow his grandfather's set of stipulations. Hawk doesn't like the deal but eventually accepts the terms and claims the baby once it's confirmed that he is the father. Addison Calloway (22; aka Addy) is the youngest in her family, lost her left leg in a car accident when she drove drunk and crashed after her brother's funeral 4 years ago. Addison recently graduated college but no longer wants to pursue a second degree to become a physical therapist, other than working with children she doesn't really know what she wants to do. When Hawk's nanny quits Addison accepts the job on a trial basis even though Hawk is her brother's enemy......

I was entertained by this story but I didn't really pick up any chemistry/heat between Hawk and Addison and am baffled that she chose him in the end, even though I knew she would. It felt like they should've just become close friends. I also don't understand the family rivalry, it makes no sense to me that it's gone on so long. (The family rivalry is briefly described in SC's 'Unlikely Date'.) It was worth the Kindle borrow though it isn't my favorite SC book. JP
