Outstanding Guide for Life

This book helps you learn about exercise, fitness, diet, and whole body improvement. It is motivating and interesting. The combination of medical reasoning/logic and real life stories lends credibility to the information contained in it. I have listened to this entire book twice and I am sure I will listen to it many more times. Anytime I start to loose motivation to keep exercising or to start eating "crap" as it is so eloquently described in this book, I replay the book during my commute for the week and I am re-energized to stay on my exercise and diet routine. The narrators for this book are fantastic! I am glad the authors decided to have two narrators making it very easy to know when the text was coming from Chris, the antidotal retired lawyer, or Henry, the medical doctor. The Darwinian references are something you will need to take with the filter by which you view your religious beliefs. Don't pass this book up because of the evolution aspect - the other content is worth every penny the book costs and then some! I look and feel 10 years younger than I did last year.

Just what I needed!

A friend recommended the book, and I found the "women's" version almost by accident. Pushing 50 and tired of feeling "old," I know I need to make a change, and have tried several over the last couple years. I just couldn't stick with them, because most "programs" advocate activity every other day. For me, one day off became two, then three and soon, "what's the point?" I love the framework offered. It allows tremendous flexibility in WHAT I do, so long as I do it 6 days a week.

The medical facts are presented in English, not med-speak. And the anecdotes are fun! The book is eye opening without being threatening. It is easy to take Chris' admonitions as the recommendations of a trusted friend.

I've even enlisted my husband to grow younger with me. I've only walked and bicycled so far, but I already feel more energetic. Money well spent.

Annoying

I’m sure there’s some good information in there somewhere, but the narrator is annoying, tells way too many superfluous stories about his antics and is a GUY! A book for women ought to be read by a woman. Right? From a woman’s perspective. Talking to women isn’t the same as being one. Sorry.

True enough

I was happy to read this book because of the emphasis on a decent diet and exercise. The basic premise is excellent in terms of vigorous exercise both aerobic and weight training. For any age this is a good book except when it comes to women. The author is opposed to hormone replacement therapy for women and makes a big case for it however does not include the current research on the topic.
As far as the chapters of the book they are way too chatty for me. Someone else might really enjoy them but I didn't think they were really that well done.
Overall though there aren't many books out there that will reallymake a case for vigorous exercise as this book does. So I do recommend it. I think I would buy the younger next year version and not the younger next year for women.

mixed bag

This book was Co-authored by an attorney and a doctor. The chapters by the doctor are very informative. The chapters by the attorney go on long tangents about skiing and cycling. Also, this is their second version of the book, directed specifically to women. Other than discussing menopause, I don't think the second version was necessary. I say this because I found the "good girl" advice given by these incredibly grating, bordering on patronizing. Other readers, especially older readers, may not be so bothered by this tone in the writing. And that's not to say the authors didn't have examples of strong women throughout the book (eg, Hillary, the cycling club organizer and Aunt Kitty). I just thought I should note that the tone was distracting as I listened to the stories. Otherwise, the book offers helpful, simple-but-not-easy life advice that I think works at any age. Thanks!

So motivating!

I listened to the book on a long road trip, and I feel really inspired to turn my health around! I can't imagine reading the book, but the audio book, though long was both informative and rewarding. If you are in your late 40s or early 50s, check this book out!

What an inspiring and motivational book on living your life to it's fullest. Simply written and very entertaining! I enjoyed having two narrators and the humor mixed with science. This book is one you may choose to read over and over again.

Great advice

I really enjoyed this book; it was very thoughtfully done and gave the facts as well as the application to real life. I found it to have excellent suggestions on how to feel and live better. A necessary read for anyone over 40.
