Publisher's Summary

The pile of recent dieting books is growing faster than the average American's waistline. From the well-known programs that deprive and restrict to ones that rely on juice alone, it seems that everybody has an answer to the growing problem of obesity.

When Jon Gabriel's life took an unexpected turn, he suddenly was awakened to the marvelous gift that he had been given - the opportunity to live - and was disgusted at how he had treated his body. At over four hundred pounds, walking, sleeping, and working was a struggle against gravity, and his life was a constant battle between emotional and physical satiation. He was slowly killing himself with food.

Like the estimated 58 percent of Americans, and rising numbers in other countries, Jon was trapped in what he came to call the FAT - Famine and Temperature - trap. By studying biochemistry, Gabriel learned that your body has an internal logic that determines how fat or thin you will be at any given time. The way to lose weight is not to struggle or to force yourself to lose weight but to understand this internal logic and work with it so that your body wants to be thinner. When your body wants to be thinner, weight loss is inevitable and becomes automatic and effortless. You simply crave less food, you crave healthier foods, your metabolism speeds up and you become very efficient at burning fat, just like a naturally thin person. And that's the real transformation - to transform yourself into a naturally thin person, so that you can eat whatever you want whenever you want and still be thin, fit, and vibrantly healthy.

After listening to The Gabriel Method, you will learn:

  • Your body has a reason why it's holding on to weight - and it's not your fault.
  • Fat is a cushion - a protective barrier that our mind believes is helping to protect us.
  • If you can change that belief, you can change your body; stop the cycle of crash dieting and start eating what you want, when you want it.
  • How to choose healthy, nutritious foods that nourish the cells in your body, not starve them.
  • The simple way you can train your mind and body to work with your goal of health, not against it.
  • How to eliminate the emotional and mental reasons your body holds on to weight in just 10 minutes a day.

It certainly worked for Jon; he lost 225 pounds in two-and-a-half years, going from 409 pounds to 184, without suffering, dieting, or anguishing over his body. Unlike most people who lose an extensive amount of weight, his skin tightened up and now is indistinguishable from that of a person who has been healthy his whole life.

    "Amazing approach"

I've been eating less, not wanting at all to continue eating beyond my body's feeling full or comfortable (no willpower involved- just doing what I want to do.) although this approach helps working through underlying circumstances leading to what's activating your fat programs (as Jon Gabriel calls it), merely being aware of what's occurring physiologically, using visualizations, including the night time weight loss audio from the website, I'm losing weight and feeling more alive. I have not spent the time yet to take full use of the program, but it's working even preliminarily with the eye opening knowledge, actively trying to turn on fat burning, taking advantage of "smart mode" and using visualizations. I have no financial gain from this review. I've listened to at least 50 audiobooks here and I think this is my second review. Hope it's helpful.

    "Excellent read/listen"

great book. moves along quickly but provides plenty of information. I believe Jon Gabriel has finally hit the nail on the head for obesity. All this while we have been blaming our lazy undisciplined selves and our forks when it has been in our heads all along.

    "Kooky and Irresponsible"
What would have made The Gabriel Method better?

I bought this because I was interested in meditation for weight loss, and still am. The book starts out with interesting ideas and I had an open mind so I just flowed over the references to "past lives" and the supernatural. But, I gave up and stopped listening when the author began advocating skipping vaccinations because they are "toxic." Really? Anti-vaccinations? This books seems beyond new-age, it is anti-science.

Would you ever listen to anything by Jon Gabriel again?

    No

What three words best describe Jeffrey Kafer’s performance?

Good. Narration is fine. It is the content that is not worth your time.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Gabriel Method?

Anti-vaccinations, past lives, non-science based assertions.

    "Changed my brain"

It is kind of weird at first to listen to considering it is a book on losing weight. But all the mind stuff in the psychological stuff that he talks about actually is true and does make sense towards the end. I feel like my brain and my taste buds are changing, everything is. Mind you, I was already down this path, but this just confirmed and further explain a lot of stuff for me. I love his no diet approach to losing weight, which is very liberating, and very effective. For that reason I give it five stars.

"Excellent material, needs to be read by the author"
What made the experience of listening to The Gabriel Method the most enjoyable?

NOTE: REVIEW BY KAREN KORWAL, SEBASTIAN KORWAL'S WIFE

The content was enjoyable, but NOT the narrator. I dislike "trained voiceover" narrators, as they always sound pretentious and overdone. Certainly true for this one. Jon Gabriel's voice is much better to read his own material. The content is excellent, though, and his method does work!

What didn’t you like about Jeffrey Kafer’s performance?

Pretentious, stagey, disconnected from the material (I didn't believe for a second that any of this happened to him -- which it didn't, but he's "playing" the role of Jon Gabriel, very unconvincingly), quite annoying. I also very much dislike the "vocal fry" in his voice. (Google if you don't know what that is.)

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I appreciated the story of Jesse the cat, which demonstrated how our bodies respond to external threats by putting on fat or becoming lean. Very memorable.

    Any additional comments?

Jon Gabriel has other materials, which I highly recommend, especially "Visualization for Weight Loss." That one has a lot of bonus materials, and the Evening Visualization mp3 is super effective. Literally listen as you fall asleep, and find yourself slimming down! I still haven't gotten through all of this recording, mainly because the narrator is just so utterly annoying. I'm very sensitive to sound (misophonia) and his voice and delivery style are grating to me. May not bother some people, so be sure to listen to the sample before deciding. Overall, I highly recommend Jon Gabriel's work, just not this recording. Get the physical book instead.

    "Amazing"
If you could sum up The Gabriel Method in three words, what would they be?

    revolutionary, true, refreshing

What did you like best about this story?

The way how he explains being fat.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

    The author's life story.

    Any additional comments?

The book is a great listen for the first few chapters but then it gets difficult to follow. I was listening to some point and then decided to get the print copy to follow his directions and instructions - it's a lot of things one needs to write down (or highlight). I still recommend it in the audio version even if only for the chills and catching the spirit.

I can see how this could completely change someone's life! I look forward to my own transformation! I'm left wondering about the author's own voice...
