I liked hearing about his personal story. I also appreciated his honesty. Of course cutting out most, if not all, sugar and carbohydrates isn't going to be easy, but he makes the most of it and he's funny and real and positive. I don't need to lose 60 pounds - more like 7, but whatever the number it's still not easy - especially as you get older. I feel like I have much better insight into the complicated mess our food has become. It outrages me that just by breaking sugars into several different categories (all still sugar) the ingredients can appear lower of the list - thus making us think there isn't as much sugar in the item. I thought I was safe in relying on where the item appeared in the list of ingredients. I found out why that's not a good idea.
What I didn't like is that I felt like he was trying to sell a membership into his online community. I bought the ebook and the audio and still felt like that wasn't enough.
Overall I would recommend this book - with the caveat that if you need to lose a lot of weight you should be prepared to pay for the online membership.
Glad I listened to it - certainly time well spent.
After 17 weeks on Adkins, I went from 224 to 200 lbs. Then I leveled out, and couldn't lose anymore. After this audio book, I lost 26 more lbs in the next 17 weeks and 21.2% BF to 15.4% BF. BMI went from 28.3 to 24.8. And I eat like a king! Thank you Mr. Beck. Great narrator, love Craig's reading style and voice. Top tips: lose the booze, diet soda and change the way you think about food on a subconscious level.
Excellent intro into the activity of sugar in our foods and its effect.
Not enough of a list of good foods which will aid wait loss by not having sugar or the ability to convert into sugar. I have started and am re-listening for reinforcement.
"A life changing book."
This book has literally saved my life ... In January 2017 I was diagnosed with diabetes type 2 and heading straight for a heart attack. After listening to this book (at least five times!) the message Craig puts over is a compelling one! If you eat wheat you will get fat.. it is that simple... My blood glucose level from my HBA1c was at 91 in January ...It is now march and my HBA1c is now at 55!!!! All this from eating the correct food.I have also lost an incredible 13.5 kg during this time ... I feel fantastic,full of energy plus the symptoms /flare ups of my Ankylosing spondilitis has practically gone...
Listen to this book ....more than once ;-) and you will reap the benifits from a truly fantastic lifestyle....

"Open minded but so confused"
Michael Mosley brought this way of eating to my attention and now doing research into the lifestyle . I liked Craig Becks entertaining style but some areas not addressed. Three quarters of book is drop sugar and carbs. One chapter on allowed green foods and then a sketch of a few days of his food. Am I supposed to have dairy am I supposed to count calories as well and where do I put together a shopping list/meal plan. The answer it seems is to subscribe to his website. Useful book if you've never heard about hidden sugars and low carb diets as a starting place. Lots of conflicts between his suggestions but hey I'm open minded and it worked for him it could work for you if you can guess what foods you can have and quantities
