Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease challenges conventional cardiology by posing a compelling, revolutionary idea—that we can, in fact, abolish the heart disease epidemic in this country by changing our diets. Drawing on the groundbreaking results of his twenty-year nutritional study, Dr. Caldwell B. Esselstyn, Jr., a former surgeon, researcher, and clinician at the Cleveland Clinic, convincingly argues that a plant-based, oil-free diet can not only prevent and stop the progression of heart disease, but also reverse its effects.

The benefits of restrictive diets like paleo and keto have been touted for more than a decade, but as renowned gastroenterologist Dr. Will Bulsiewicz, or "Dr. B", illuminates in this groundbreaking audiobook, the explosion of studies on the microbiome makes it abundantly clear that elimination diets are in fact hazardous to our health. What studies clearly now show - and what Dr. B preaches with his patients - is that gut health is the key to boosting our metabolism, balancing our hormones, and taming the inflammation that causes a host of diseases.

Our gut is almost as important to us as our brain, yet we know very little about how it works. Gut: The Inside Story is an entertaining, informative tour of the digestive system from the moment we raise a tasty morsel to our lips until the moment our body surrenders the remnants to the toilet bowl. No topic is too lowly for the author's wonder and admiration, from the careful choreography of breaking wind to the precise internal communication required for a cleansing vomit.

Interesting
Most of the nutritional information in this book is actually what I am learning about in my pre-med classes. I definitely think you can't go wrong by eating more fresh fruits and veggies, though the specific meal plan discussed in this book might not have enough calories or fat that someone as active as I would need. The author gives information about how to adapt this way of eating too fit better into your lifestyle. Of the nutritional /diet books I have read, this really seems to be the healthiest way to lose weight and take control of your health.

Before I listened to this book I was skeptical
Book was recommended to me
Joel Fuhrman has a way with words that work
His diet includes fiber, nuts, vegetables, fruit, seeds, plant-based food overall
He does not discriminate : no matter your preferences with food or unhealthy lifestyle this book can do at least one good thing for you

Love the info; want more resources
What made the experience of listening to Eat to Live the most enjoyable?
The comprehensive, documented scientific backing of the SOUND nutritional information
What was one of the most memorable moments of Eat to Live?
When I realized that broccoli had MORE protein per calorie than STEAK!!! What?! :)
Have you listened to any of Joel Fuhrman’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No, I haven't.
Any additional comments?
Like many others who wrote reviews, I agree that to make this a complete tool, the audio reader needs to have a link to a PDF or website that will help guide them into the recipes and the FUNCTIONAL/MECHANICAL part of this book and the concepts it presents.
However, as a "good thing", his book and the cook book are both available in the library. I chose to check them out so that I can read along and re-read more intensely the detail laden segments that I really wanted to understand (I'm a "why" person). The recipes are handy to have, but it was rather inconvenient to go to the library for the recipes, when I had the convenience of audible.com for the content.
