Publisher's summary

An essential resource for golfers who want to play a smarter, more fulfilling game on the green

For as long as golf has existed, the game's greatest players and instructors have lauded the importance of mental resilience. However, while golfing equipment and course strategy have evolved over time, the field of golf psychology has not kept pace. Many outdated, unscientific notions remain widespread, despite the fact that they actually lead to repetitive, harmful patterns that impair golfer gameplay and create mental barriers to success.

In Golf Beneath the Surface, performance consultant Dr. Raymond Prior expertly debunks these "surface-level" psychology myths and explains psychological predictors that encourage long-term growth and skillful performance under pressure. Backed by rigorously researched neuroscience and psychology and drawing on years of experience working with some of the world's best players, Dr. Prior shares fresh, practical insights into how golfers think, train, and play, both on and off the course.

Accessible and entertaining, Golf Beneath the Surface challenges the status quo and brings a long-overdue update to modern performance psychology.

Completness

Nothing, it was thorough, useful and research based. I can take useful action as a result.

Game changing for thought process during golf

This has helped me appreciate the game of golf when playing it more, while being cognizant of the negative thought loops that golfers fall into. Good way to think about life as well. Highly recommend

Excellent advice and thoughts

Ray has a great approach to golf, and debunks (with evidence) many old myths that may actually harm our game. I bought the audio, the electronic version, and hard copy for my collection, that’s how good it is

Tough listen

Every chapter / concept is examined in a smug, condescending manner. I finished the book but every listen left me feeling low. If you want to be told why various other golf performance psychology ideas and strategies are wrong and then have the author pose hypothetical questions to the listener and then answer his own questions by says ‘oh really”, “isn’t that interesting” and “i thought so” then this is for you.

Interesting content not a good audio book

The content is interesting and is centered around how the brain works. It goes through a lot of detail that is pretty deep to absorb. Listening requires very focused attention which is not how I use audiobooks. I suspect the written version would be a better option where you can focus on the acronyms and the meanings and the suggestions the author provides.
