Publisher's summary

"You drive for show, you putt for dough."

This old adage is especially resonant with Dr. Bob Rotella, the best-selling author of Golf Is Not a Game of Perfect, and one of the foremost golf authorities today. In Putting Out of Your Mind, Rotella offers entertaining putting. He reveals the unique mental approach that great putting requires and helps golfers of all levels master this essential skill.

Much like Golf Is Not a Game of Perfect and Golf Is a Game of Confidence, Putting Out of Your Mind is an informative and valuable guide to achieving a better golf game. While most spend their time trying to perfect their swing so they can drive the ball farther, Rotella encourages golfers to concentrate on their putting: the most crucial yet often overlooked aspect of the game. Great players are not only aware of the importance of putting, they go out of their way to master it, and mastery can only begin with understanding the attitude needed to be a better putter. Rotella's mental rules have helped some of the greatest golfers in the world to become champion putters. Now they're available to golfers everywhere.

From true-life stories of such greats as Davis Love III, David Duvall, and Brad Faxon, to dozens of game-changing practice drills, Putting Out of Your Mind is the new bible of putting for amateurs and pros alike.

2.5 stars

To echo some other reviews, there wasn’t much content here, and what was here was a small part, and more shallower version, of the advice given in Zen Golf.

Pretty good but...

Good book, gave some nice insight into the thoughts and habits of effective putters but it was a bit light on the content. I expected less anecdote and more psychology. Really not bad though.

Simple and straightforward

It's not complicated and Dr. Bob explains as much. I'll be listening again and taking some notes. Concise and easy to follow. Less mechanical and more about routine, attitude and process.

Get confident in your swing

If frequently find yourself lacking confidence as you stand over your tee shot, this book can help you. As another reviewer said, this book is one to listen to as you are driving to your next round. It helps you condition your mind before you play.

I was on the way to the course and listening for the 3rd time when something clicked. It was the these two things: 1) Pick a distant target for your mind to focus on and 2) The mantra: "Look at the target, look at the ball, swing." When you understand these two concepts, which go hand in hand, you will put aside fear and start hitting the ball straight more consistently.

For two of my last three (9 hole) rounds, I was awestruck watching my shots going right on target, just like magic. On one tough course, I had my longest string of pars and bogeys ever. I now step up to the ball feeling good about every shot. Bad shots still happen, but they don't bother me.

There is a lot more to the book; and Bob does a great job of getting his concepts across.

Thanks Bob. I have no doubt that my first sub-100 (18-hole) round is coming up soon.

Loved the explanation that every putt is a green light putt! Practice like your playing and play like you practice!
