In 1993, Andrew Brunson was asked to travel to Turkey, the largest unevangelized country in the world, to serve as a missionary. Though hesitant because of the daunting and dangerous task that lay ahead, Andrew and his wife, Norine, believed this was God's plan for them.

What followed was a string of threats and attacks, but also successes in starting new churches in a place where many people had never met a Christian. As their work with refugees from Syria, including Kurds, gained attention and suspicion, Andrew and Norine acknowledged the threat but accepted the risk, determining to stay unless God told them to leave.

In 2016, they were arrested. Though the State eventually released Norine, who remained in Turkey, Andrew was imprisoned. Accused of being a spy and being among the plotters of the attempted coup, he became a political pawn whose story soon became known around the world.

God's Hostage is the incredible true story of his imprisonment, his brokenness, and his eventual freedom. Anyone with a heart for missions, especially to the Muslim world, will love this tension-laden and faith-laced book.

This is a wonderful narration by Andrew Brunson himself. I remember praying for him. This is Roman’s 8:28 happening for us to see. “All things work together for the good of those who love Him and have been called according toHis purposes.”

Author admitted vulnerability and weaknesses, but he saw God's hand through it all. He had honest struggles and doubts, but God used him in a great way

Shocking….

It is shocking to see how God works. The story of this family is not necessarily a new one per missionaries—the outcome, as always, was in the hands of the Lord.

I love the honesty of the battles that our brother had. The ability to share his lack of faith and then understanding that his joy comes from the strength of the Lord. Great book! 

Outstanding

This book detailed one man’s journey in faith.
The best part of this book is the transparency of his life. He does not fail to share his real struggles. It is not about his faithlessness - it is about the real struggle a Christian can face. And that is what makes it such a good book to read if you want to know if God is real. Because the Christian God says believe in my Son and I will never let anyone take you out of My hand. This is that story. Of a big God who sees one real man who belongs to Him ...because of Jesus.

This book was so honest and moving. I loved listening to Pastor Brunson read his own words with all the emotion he felt in those days of imprisonment.

The Why in Suffering

Really enjoyed the narration and the poignant story of a missionary pastor wrongly accused and caught up in a political drama within Turkey.

great book

this was an interesting, inspiring, and mysterious memoir. for it moved at a steady clip without getting bogged down in details. at many times it was a akin to driving a car on dangerous high mountain side. a book that is truly hard to put down. I recommend this book to anyone wanting a good read and an exciting Christian read too.

Incredibly Moving

This was such an amazing story of perseverance in one of the hardest struggles anyone could imagine. It’s inspiring to hear how to lean on God even when the world is turning against you and deception is trying to win. A great story of overcoming, with God’s power.
