Publisher's summary

Stunning Miranda Harford once had the world at her feet. She was young, carefree, and desperately in love. But when her new husband left for London without her, her world fell apart. Devastated by his abandonment, Miranda fled their home, taking residence at her husband's rarely visited countryside estate. For three years, she lived alone. But now, as the holidays draw near, an unexpected visitor arrives.

Carter Alexander Harford, Seventh Viscount Devereaux, is a man driven to succeed. His work is his life, and the position of Prime Minister of England is within reach. But in truth, Carter is a man haunted by lost love. Estranged from his beautiful wife, Carter is shocked to find Miranda - the woman he loved and who he believes left him - in residence at his country home. As plans for a holiday party move forward, the uneasy couple realizes that to avoid further scandal, they must keep up appearances in a charade of marital happiness. Thrust together by fate, it quickly becomes clear that they have both been living beneath a conspired cloud of misunderstanding. As family, career, and social pressures threaten to keep them apart, can love have even a glimmer of hope?

Love the story of redemption

Oh what tangled webs we weave when others practice to deceive. This is why communication is so important. And what a shorter novel this would have been if the characters had not been incredibly stupid to begin with😉

A Decent Book

This isn't my favorite book of this genre by far, but the plot was, somehow, compelling enough to keep me listening. The storyline did seem, though, quite improbable ... not only from the standpoint of how the estranged couple came to be in their respective situations at the beginning of the book, but also how they just didn't just blurt out everything they'd been thinking & feeling for the last 3 years when they finally saw each other. I kept thinking, "Why don't they just ASK each other [this] or [that]?" And, if he really loved her that much when they first were married, why didn't he just GO TO SEE HER / search her out 3 years ago when she left? I partially chocked it up to some kind of extremely conservative British etiquette. But, really, I don't know if anyone could be SO well-behaved to not spontaneously "spill" 3 years worth of emotions.

I liked the narrator's comfortable pace, but her British accent was not consistent and the "voice" of the husband and that of his mother seemed almost identical to me. I actually thought that he WAS an older female character when he first spoke (because his wife heard his voice before she saw him, so there was no visual reference / description in advance).

About half way through thr book I figured out a good portion of "what happened" 3 years ago, but there were other details I didn't realize in advance, although there were easy clues.

It is, still, a sweet love story, even if not totally believable.

WOW 👏

Sarah M Eden, you are amazing! You have climbed to the very top of my list of favorite authors.

Your characters are so strong and believable! Their journeys are intriguing! I go on their journeys many times just to be with them once again! These characters will bring great joy for years to come.

This book definitely sets the importance of communicating truthfully to loved ones on a regular basis.

Thank you ever so much for sharing your characters and talents with me!

Kudos to Ms. Mellon for her performance.

Sweet Story

The story is tender. I would listen to the sample to determine if the pacing is fast enough for your interest.

Very sweet but lack of communication was frustrating

Let me start out by saying I listened to the book in almost an entire day. It was entertaining enough for me to want to keep listening. The characters were interesting and the story line unique. A few frustrations were the communication issues between the main characters. You just want to shake them both! I found myself feeling like Carter (the husband) was stuck up and condescending to Miranda… but then when I would repeat his same lines in my head a different way, and then he didn’t sound so stuck up. While I think the narrator was wonderful with accents, her voicing of Carter really annoyed me at times. I think he was meant to be much sweeter than she read him as. If I had read the book I think I would have liked his character much more. Overall I enjoyed reading this book!

Very good

What I liked most in this story was the love these 2 obviously had for each other. That brought me back to the story each time I had a bit of time for reading. I like too that there seemed to be good follow thru, with the levels of the story.

Heartbreaking

I enjoy reading/listening to Ms. Eden's stories. They are always thoughtful and sweet. This story was somewhat heartbreaking. The heartlessness of Carter's parents was difficult to come to grips with.

I wish that the why behind the separation had come before the later half of the story. Nevertheless, although not lighthearted, it was compelling and enjoyable in that way that a serious story can be.

It is difficult to say if it is worth a credit but it was not a waste of time.
