Publisher's summary

Miss Gwendolyn Brinley accepted a temporary paid companion position for the Newport summer season, believing it would be a lark to spend the summer in America's most exclusive town. She suddenly finds her summer turning anything but amusing when her employer expects her to take over responsibilities as an assistant matchmaker. Tasked with the daunting prospect of attaining advantageous matches for her clients, Gwendolyn soon finds herself in the company of Mr. Walter Townsend, the catch of the Season, but a gentleman Gwendolyn finds beyond annoying.

Walter is reluctantly in search of a wife for the sake of his unruly motherless children. What he wasn't expecting was Miss Brinley, who turns his quest for a new wife into a complete and utter debacle.

The more time they spend together throughout the Newport Season, the harder it is for Gwendolyn to find Walter a wife when she realizes his perfect match might be . . . her.

Excellent story with fantastic narration

Loved the story but I may have loved the narrator the most. What a breath of fresh air to have a woman not attempt to lower her voice nine octaves when reading a male character’s line. Her voice was also incredibly pleasant to listen to as a whole.

A Romance?

The conversations and interactions among the characters were delightful. An amusing romp but a romance? Not so much. You could see the relationship developing between Walter and Gwen but there was no physical attraction or evidence of an emotional connection. The narration was poorly done. Although the narrator’s voice was pleasant the inflection was all wrong and the cadence was off. Because of the narration I do not recommend the audio book. If the reader wants a light hearted romp I recommend the kindle version.

So fun!

I love Jen Turano. I have a lot of her books. She balances witty, powerful, beautiful main characters with equally charming gentlemen. Both unsuspecting in their own way. I just love this book! Thank you so much and keep writing!

Extremely Delightful

At first I didn’t care for the narrator. I have listened to all of Jen Turano’s book and thought this was one
I wasn’t going to be able to finish. But I decided to give it a try and continue. Much to my delight the more I listened the more I thought she was perfect.

I loved the story line and the twist and turns. I am especially delighted when someone has the ability to capture the innocence of children. They were such an asset to the story and assisted with the tears I shed and the humor which Jen always seems to have a way of incorporating into her stories.

This is one I will listen to again and can’t wait for the next one.

Gwendolyn speaks her mind

I loved Gwendolyn’s strong personality. She spoke her mind even when it wasn’t accepted. This period story kept my interest, the plot was good.

So cute!

The narrator is good but needs to work on her male voice. Make it a touch crisper between male characters so they don’t mostly all sound the same. Otherwise the book was fun, light hearted and left you at the end feeling happy.

Entertaining

I loved this one. Very enjoyable audiobook. Ms. Turano's books always have fun, quirky characters that make the reader smile. Gwendolyn was quite delightful with her bluntness and ability to handle situations that would otherwise be a disaster. She had a wonderful ability to see and speak truth.
Walter has a great growth arc that makes him a better father and a better person. And he will be a better husband as well.
I adored Walter's children. And I loved Gwendolyn's interactions with them that in the end show them to be wonderful kids and not the spoiled brats they are in the beginning. The 9 year old particularly was so insightful and really an old soul. He stole my heart.
The narrator of this audiobook did a wonderful job. She enhanced the story with her narration.
Overall, I really enjoyed the book and found myself smiling on multiple occasions.

loved it.

IJen has a way of telling a story that is fun, without being completely ridiculous. it is lighthearted and just long enough to keep me interested without making me tired of the characters. the females are strong and with and the male charters are intelligent without taking themselves overly serious. I think the main character make is a bit clueless though.

Delightful

Jen Turano’ s characters are always quirky and endearing. Gwendolyn and Adelaide do not disappoint with funny banter and laugh out loud mishaps. I enjoyed the stories twists and turns. While the setting is the same as her others books, this is a fresh new adventure. I highly recommend!

Rather abrupt ending…

Lovely story, but this is a good example of book that need an additional chapter or an epilogue. Maybe the intent is that you will read book two, but this ending lest me wanting just a smidge more.
