Publisher's summary

Bloomsbury presents Girl from Nowhere by Tiffany Rosenhan, read by Sarah Ovens. Red Sparrow meets One of Us Is Lying in this action-packed, romance-filled YA debut about a girl trying to outrun her past.

Ninety-four countries. Thirty-one schools. Two bullets. Now it’s over...or so she thinks.

Sophia Hepworth arrives in Montana with the promise of a normal American high school experience. But after a turbulent few years abroad with her diplomat parents, forgetting the past is easier said than done. After all, 'normal' high school students aren’t fluent in multiple languages or trained in several forms of combat.

Then Sophia meets a group of friends she can really trust and finds herself drawn more and more to mysterious Aksel - who she maybe shouldn’t trust but can’t stop thinking about. But it’s not long before Sophia’s past catches up with her and she learns who she really is, and all that she is capable of in the name of love and survival.

Full of heart-stopping action and breath-taking romance, this cinematic debut features a girl willing to risk everything to save the life that she built for herself.

Your inner-teen will love this book!

I wish I had had this book when I was a 14 year old girl. It has all the elements I loved—romance, suspense, fashion, European culture. The narrator’s voice confused me for a while...it sounded like a European trying to do an American accent. Then I realized this may have been intentional. The main character IS from Europe (with American parents) and has gone to international schools her whole life. It made perfect sense after that and I actually enjoyed the narrator’s cadence. I hope there will be a sequel!

Intriguing, detailed YA thriller. Highly recommended.

This was a lot of fun to read.
I haven’t seen this attention to detail in a novel in years. (Think Victor Hugo, the scenes are painted for you with beautiful words)
It’s captivating & fun to read. I kept looking up where this girl has traveled in the world (everywhere) It’s pretty cool.
It is a young adult novel that brings out the best in love, family & a gorgeous small town backdrop.

Highly entertaining!

I wasn’t sure what to expect since I believed this books general demographic was probably teenage girls. However, once I started listening to the story of Sophia and her amazing experiences, I was hooked. I loved Rosenhan’s writing style and the detail in which she tells the story. I am a middle aged man and highly recommend this book to girls (and boys) of all ages!

Unexpected

The story has a nice pace and great twists to the plot. However, the reader’s accent (Boston?) was distracting for me and detracted from my enjoyment of the story. A midwestern accent would have been best since the setting is Montana.

Very disappointing

The story started out great.

It was fun hearing about how a 15 year-old girl who had previously lived all over the world became acclimated to a small town in Montana.

After about a quarter of the way into the story it went off the rails. Then just kept on going being totally unbelievable with our 15 year-old shooting, fighting and basically being just like her CIA parents. Don't even get me started on the parents. They were terrible.

Not worth the time or money. I gave up with four or five chapters left.

Just okay

The narrator's American accent was hit and miss which was really distracting. She did great with other languages and accents, but the American one (which was a majority of the book) was not great sometimes

As for the story, there was so much detail in this book, it was actually really impressive. However, at times the character seemed pretentious, and the storyline was farfetched. I understand that sometimes readers have to suspend their disbelief to enjoy a book, but this one was a bit beyond that, especially at the end when the main character (17 years old) had an incredible knowledge of seemingly everything.
