Publisher's summary

Granny was famous for her award-winning apple pies - and notorious for murdering her husband Jacob at their homestead in Julian, California. The only trouble is, Granny was framed, then murdered. For more than 100 years, Granny's spirit has been searching for someone to help her see that justice is served - and she hits pay dirt when she pops in to a séance attended by her great-great-great-granddaughter, modern-day divorced mom Emma Whitecastle. Together, Emma and Granny Apples solve mysteries of the past and the present - starting with Granny's own unjust murder rap in the final days of the California Gold Rush.

Along with a sprinkling of history, this spirited new mystery series features the amateur sleuth team of Emma Whitecastle and the spirit of her pie-baking great-great-great-grandmother, Granny Apples.

"Emma handles her 'gift' of seeing the dead with aplomb, and class. I'll look forward to seeing where the sequel will take Emma and Granny." (Deadly Pleasures)

"A charming tale, as appealing as apple pie. I predict a long life (and afterlife) for Sue Ann's latest series." (Harley Jane Kozak, Agatha, Anthony, and Macavity Award-winning author of Dating Dead Men)

"Take colorful characters in a charming setting, mix in a dash of romance, add a pinch of the paranormal, and serve it up like one of Granny's famous pies. I guarantee you'll be back for seconds." (Deborah Sharp, author of Mama Rides Shotgun)

Pleasant entertaining ghost story.

The story starts with Emma Whitecastle attending a seance with a friend. Emma’s life is topsy turvey. She is going thru a divorce. Her daughter is getting ready to move across the country to attend college. Emma is back home living with her parents.
Then out of no where Emma finds out she can see and hear the ghost of her great great great grandmother, Ish Reynolds aka Granny Apples.
Emma finds out early on that Granny Apples wants her help to prove her innocence for a crime she did not commit over one hundred years ago.
Emma at loose ends in her own life decides to help Granny. She goes to Granny’s hometown. With Granny’s help Emma finds the land where Granny lived and died. Hung from a tree for murdering her husband. The present day land owners are not happy to have someone trespassing on their land. Emma does her best to find out who really committed the murder and exonerate Granny.
This is a very entertaining and pleasant ghost story. I am looking forward to reading the next Granny Apples story. Can’t wait to see what kind of trouble Emma and Granny get themselves in to.

Good fun!

cozy-mystery, amateur-sleuth, paranormal, ghosts, California, verbal-humor, situational-humor

***** I win! An author I've never read, the first book in a series, a narrator I've never listened to, and won in a giveaway!
The publisher's blurb is a pretty good hook, but the story is even better. I'm not really into plot summaries or spoilers, but the mystery is quite well done and there are some really good laughs.
Sandra Murphy is the audio performer who does great interpretations of each interesting character.

Great Job!

First off must admit, I am a huge fan of Sue Ann's. Read her books faithfully. Was a little reluctant to try the audio version of this as I have a set tone and voice for the characters in my mind having been a fan of the series. The narration is far above expectations. I do listen to it on a faster speed, but enjoy the voice and style. It is a fun series and I encourage you to dive in!

Very entertaining cozy mystery!

I am not usually a fan of paranormal cozy mysteries; however, I really enjoyed this book. I hope that the rest of the series is released on Audible soon.

A Ghostly Mystery

After a "just for fun" seance reveals the fact that her ancestors came from a Julian, California, a newly separated and almost divorced woman gets pulled in to the investigation of multiple murders by the ghost of an ancestor who was wrongfully accused of her husband's death.
This one offers a little of everything: ghosts, psychics, murders, mystery, snakes, dogs and even a little romance. Well written with interesting characters and a fun and action packed plot.
One of the most enjoyable mysteries I've listened to this year.

Well-written!

The audiobook held my attention throughout with all its twists and turns.
I've been to all the places mentioned so I related to the story.

I enjoy cozy mysteries because they don't have foul language and gratuitous sex and violence.

The narrator, Sandra Murphy, did a great job bringing the characters to life.
