Publisher's summary

A chronic yes-woman finally admits to what—and who—she really wants in this unforgettable and heartfelt romantic comedy, by the author of The Layover.

Liv Bakersfield is used to living her life in “shoulds.” Be fit. Be financially responsible. Be your best self. An overworked graphic designer, she’s stretched so thin that she’s about to miss yet another vacation with her beloved group of college friends. But when Liv finally decides to start saying no, it feels good…good enough to leap straight into quitting her job and hopping on a plane to join them in South Africa.

Amid the exotic landscape and unforgettable sights, Liv expects sun and safari animals and an easy time with her best friends. But such close proximity makes everything more complicated, especially with the emotionally unavailable Lucas Deiss. Their friendship is the only thing in her life that's still solid, and she vows to do anything she can to keep the group together. But once they get back to LA, Liv discovers that her leap of faith has become a freefall, sending her crashing into Deiss's arms. With the trust of the people she loves most on the line, Liv must decide between doing what she should … and risking everything for what she shouldn’t want.

Not as much of a rom com as the debut

I listened to The Layover and absolutely loved the world built within it. You could absolutely tell the author was a seasoned flight attendant and it was fun joining her characters for the ride.

I immediately picked up From the Jump to listen to afterwards. It was definitely a lot slower and it took a lot longer for me to be into the story. I don’t feel it was as fleshed out as The Layover, and the FMC was actually pretty unlikable for the first 2/3 of the book. It would have been more enjoyable if there was more backstory explained (sprinkled in throughout) in the beginning portion, but the story was there.

A great summer read

I loved Walton’s first book and immediately preordered the audiobook when I saw Brittany Pressley was narrating. I will listen to anything she narrates. I really enjoyed this story as Liv moves out of her comfort zone to find more of what she really wants in life. I loved the friends to roommates to lovers storyline and I loved Deiss! I can’t wait to see what Waldo’s writes next!

Meh.

I was hoping for much more since Brittney Pressley narrated but it was a very typical, flat rom com. Nothing made it stand out to me besides the narration. BP did a great job as usual but the story was just “meh.” I would try another book by this author and hope for more of a bang!

Meh

I really enjoyed The Layover but I should have listened to the reviews on this one. You know when an actor does a bad movie in a cool location and you know they took the role just to film there? I’m getting the impression the author is doing the same thing. It seems to be a trend lately with books. Sometimes it works but in this case it really doesn’t.

BLEH!!!

I honestly will never be able to understand why authors ruin their own books..... I very much enjoyed her last book "the layover" and got this one right after finishing it. It started off good, solidifying this group of peoples tight knit friendship and building sexual tension between MC and love intrest and its a semi-touching story, all she has to do is bring us home. THEN all the sudden with an hour left she blows up everything she carefully created and got us to care about and be invested in. For absolutely no reason she tears every apart and leaves it in ruins and made me SICK. Why treat your readers like trash and make us put up with your need for drama and stress and pointless tension and agression? I have enough of that BS in my real life i dont need more when im trying to lose myself in a book and get away from real lifes aggravations... Couldnt even finish it. No thank you, will NOT be getting anymore of this authors works...
