Publisher's summary

From the author of My Oxford Year, Julia Whelan’s uplifting novel tells the story of a former actress turned successful audiobook narrator—who has lost sight of her dreams after a tragic accident—and her journey of self-discovery, love, and acceptance when she agrees to narrate one last romance novel.

For Sewanee Chester, being an audiobook narrator is a long way from her old dreams, but the days of being a star on film sets are long behind her. She’s found success and satisfaction from the inside of a sound booth and it allows her to care for her beloved, ailing grandmother. When she arrives in Las Vegas last-minute for a book convention, Sewanee unexpectedly spends a whirlwind night with a charming stranger.

On her return home, Sewanee discovers one of the world’s most beloved romance novelists wanted her to perform her last book—with Brock McNight, the industry’s hottest, most secretive voice. Sewanee doesn’t buy what romance novels are selling—not after her own dreams were tragically cut short—and she stopped narrating them years ago. But her admiration of the late author, and the opportunity to get her grandmother more help, makes her decision for her.

As Sewanee begins work on the book, resurrecting her old romance pseudonym, she and Brock forge a real connection, hidden behind the comfort of anonymity. Soon, she is dreaming again, but secrets are revealed, and the realities of life come crashing down around her once more.

If she can learn to risk everything for desires she has long buried, she will discover a world of intimacy and acceptance she never believed would be hers.

Editorial Review

The art of witty banter
I’ve spent many a summer day listening to the extraordinary Julia Whelan, who’s narrated some of my all-time favorite stories, but this one is extra special. Written and performed by Whelan, Thank You for Listening is a witty, fun rom-com that embraces fans and skeptics of the romance genre alike. It’s super smart without taking itself too seriously, telling the story of Sewanee Chester, a former actress turned successful audiobook narrator—who has lost sight of her dreams after a tragic accident—and her journey of self-discovery, love, and acceptance when she agrees to narrate one last romance novel. It’ll leave you blushing with a perma-smile on your face. — Tricia F.

As good of a writer as she is a narrator

This threw me for a loop when i seen it in my suggestions because i had no idea Julia W. wrote. Her being one of my favorite narrators i had to check it out and it was amazing. I guess her reading all those other books gave her insight into what works and what doesnt. Imho shes got the perfect balance of real life stuff goin on and sentimental whimsy to make it both believable and touching. I loved the characters and of course the narration was amazing 👏

She’s done it again!

Thanks for another fun and well read, read! I will pick random books that I seemingly have no interest in if she’s the narrator. She does such a wonderful job.

Talk about TALENTED!

I’ve long sought out audiobooks narrated by Julia Whelan — so when I read a New York Times article about her/the upcoming release of this book, I pre-ordered right away. SO GLAD. It’s everything I’d hoped — and more. Whelan manages to steer clear of much of the cloying, trope-y pablum utilized by so many of today’s pop fiction/beach read writers and seems to have gleaned from her years as a top notch narrator what works and what doesn’t. The result is an engrossing, enjoyable, cheeky romp with nicely fleshed out characters and fun, crackly dialogue (especially between Swan and Nick). Nicely done, Julia. You’re a tough act to follow!

A must read!

I laughed out loud, my gut tightened with anxiety, my heart broke with pain! I love Julia Whelan as a narrator but I love her so much more as an author. This book was amazing. I could not put it down.

Julia’s book is a “happier” ever after

I didn’t want the story to end, Although, when it did - it was the healthiest happily ever after I’ve ever read. She is a brilliant author and I’ll try to be patient for more of her books in the future!

Loved it!

I only discovered Ms. Whelan as a narrator about six months ago, but she very quickly became my favorite. I was cautious when I saw her first book as an author, but gave it a shot. With this one, she is quickly becoming a favorite on that list as well!

Julia Whelan is as good a writer as a performer!!

I'm sure this book would be good to read but then you would miss what a great performance Julia gives.

I can't wait for her next one.
