Publisher's summary

The year is 1771. Claire Randall is still an outlander, out of place and out of time. But now she is linked by love to her only anchor: Jamie Fraser. They have crossed oceans and centuries to build a life together in North Carolina. But tensions, both ancient and recent, threaten members of their clan.

Knowing that his wife has the gift of prophecy, James must believe Claire, though he would prefer not to. Claire has shared a dreadful truth: there will, without a doubt, be a war. Her knowledge of the oncoming revolution is a flickering torch that may light his way through perilous years ahead - or ignite a conflagration that will leave their lives in ashes.

A little slow at first

Having listened the other books in this series I found this one a little slow to get into what the story was about. Perhaps it was due to listening to other 5 one after the other then having to wait for the unabridged version of book 5. That being said, it was still an entertaining book and the tale of Jamie and Clare continues to to enthrall. As always, Davina Porter,s reading and characterisations are brilliant. She brings every charater to life, Eagerly awaiting the unabidged book 6.

Fabulous series!

I have been listening to the whole series and I absolutely love Davina Porter's performances. I highly recommend the whole series. I have read the books numerous times and have really enjoyed having them read to me. I listen while driving, mowing the lawn, working out and doing chores. It makes the time fly by which is good as each book is around fifty hours of listening! The characters come alive in my mind and I miss them when I have to stop listening for a while. Enjoy!

Loveeeee

How could you not love this book? Jamie and Claire, yes. Roger and Brianna, yes. Little Jem, yes. Action and adventure in the 1770s, yes. Diana Gabaldon outdid herself yet again, and Davina Porter just takes your mind straight to Fraser’s Ridge to join some of the beloved characters ever. It is a fantastic listen.

Great depiction of the book

I was really please with the narration of this book. I've read it before but wanted to give it a listen to refresh my memory. Davina Porter does a great job getting the feeling across! And the plot is great of course too!

The Outlander, One of the best book series of the

Diana Gabalon has done an outstanding job of building the personalities, background, and the historical content in the Outlander series. This is my third reading the series. This time to stay in since with the TV presentation of the stories. Each time I read the series I become aware of more information about the history of, and conflict between Scotland, and England, both of which I have family from. And I pick up more of the medical uses of herbs, flowers, seeds, and how many of them are medicinal.
I love the love story between Jamie and Carie, and wish that my own marriage was as so well balanced. Though the 20 year separation maybe what has made their marriage so comfortable.
In this particular book in the series so much happens, that Diana Gabaldon sweeps you through the conflict and hatred of Scotland's attempt to usurp the Englush throne with Charles Stewart, with in true would have been a disaster for the Bristish Islands, across the Alantic and into maritime laws of the time, and into the reasons what the citizens of the British colonies in the "New World," which was not "New" at all, and into the the beginnings one the separation of the "new world colonies" from Great Britain.
what I especially like about Ms. Gabaldon's approach was that she shows the beginnings of the conflict in the the Northern colonies as it usually presented, but rather from the agrarian Sothern Colonies, and their decision t o join the Northern Colonies in the conflicts of the Revolutionary war. Again I had family members that fought on both sides of the conflict, though it is my Colony acestories that most interest me.
I live in North Carolina, so learning about the pre war issues that we fought over between the Southern Colonies and the Bristish Crown has kept m y attention riveted throughout the "The Fiery Cross", a time period in which I had one small branch of my family living in Surrey County.
I readily admit that historical fiction is my favorite Genre. Followed by Fantasy, Mysteries and thrillers. I also read many non-fiction books, especially now-a-days with the political upheaval that is occurring in our country.. Ms. Gabalon also gives you a brief but telling view of why once the American Colonies became a country it it's own right, there was a civil war between the Noth and South.
I do hope that that Ms. Gabalon will rewrite a new series either about farther historical events that occurred in Great Britian, or about the time between the Revolutionary War and the civil war in the USA that brought that conflict.
Historically, I doubt that the majority of readers of this series had any idea the south ere rn colonies were so involved in bring about the beginnings of Revolutionary War, or that without North and South Carolina's involvement in the Revolutionary war was the true turning point of the conflict, and the colonies beginnings of winning the war against Great Brittain.
I look forward to rereading the next book in the Outlander Series, and following that story in the TV series on Starz channels.

Series is good but how many times can you cheat death?

I know the whole story is unrealistic, but the whole hanging episode was a bit much. Good series anyway.

Get it. Honestly.

You won't regret it. Its incredible. I just hope she comes out with more as I am officially hooked. Great rendition of history. Great story. You feel like you are being taken by the hand by Claire and lead through her experience. And Davina, she is a goddess among mortals. There is no one else that can read this. There is no one else that can grip you in and sink you so deep. I love them both. Outlander noob, but totally hooked. It's a shame I didn't find it earlier, but I dont think I could have waited between volumes. Diana give me more!!!
