Highlander Sex

What did you like best about The Chief? What did you like least?

The time period and Scot history.

Has The Chief turned you off from other books in this genre?

No I like historical romance but I like more detail about the life style and less detail sex. The day to day life and specifics such as food prep etc.

Which character – as performed by Robert McNab – was your favorite?

The heroine of course.

Do you think The Chief needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

No, been done

Any additional comments?

For the price it was nice to knit to. I like light predictable when I am doing a project. It is more like company.

Enjoyed the story, hated the narrator.

The story was enjoyable, I was not sorry to have bought the book w/audio. But this is a case of a terrible narrator. There were many pauses, long pauses, where there shouldn't have been any. His female lead sounded whiney and the male lead's voice was NOT sexy, This is unfortunate in a romance book. Nor was he even trying for a Scots accent, so I'm not sure why he was hired for these books. I've heard some really sexy, deep voiced narrators who had great Scottish and Irish accents in other books, but not this dude.

Overall No Complaints!

What did you love best about The Chief?

I loved the story of a man who dismissed a trap and turned it to his advantage.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The Chief could not be matched. He rose to meet every trial, reasonsed out every trap, and ultimately changed the circumstances to his advantage.

What aspect of Robert McNab???s performance would you have changed?

A complete disappointment. He made the heros sounds like cartoon book characters.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I wanted to know the ending but found the narrator's mighty mouse voice beyond annoying.

Any additional comments?

I finished the book despite the narrrator, but am hoping future books have a different narrator. The storyline is completely captivating and can't be ignored.

Excellent story

This was a great story which utilized real history and characters. The narrator was very poor. He was difficult to listen to and very monotone. His voice did not lend to the emotion that the charaters were feeling. If the story itself had not been so good I would not have listened to it at all.

Great Story

This book was very good it only took a few days to listen to the whole book. It grabbed me right away. The reactions between chief and Christina were very exciting the way she tried to help and he just fought it. Great nook

Looking forward to the series

Any additional comments?

Was looking for a new highland series - thought I'd seen them all. Really liked the narration - scottish was subtle, but effective and loved the tone of his voice. A somewhat meek heroine was new to me, but I liked the change and it may be more realistic. Overall an authentic description of how relationships really evolve. Also enjoyed being introduced to the Guard. I will check out the rest of the series.

The Chief Tormod MacLeod. He grows the most in the story.

Any additional comments?

The Chief is the first story of 12 Highland Guards. After the brutal torture and death of William Wallace the Highlanders start a new uprising the year 1305 with Robert the Bruce, Earl of Carrick and Lord of Annandale as the leader of the new uprising. . Bruce wants to approach the new war in a different manner. He will picks out12 Highland Warriors who are experts in the different areas of battle an war. The men would be trained under one leader and that is Tormod MacLead/Tor whose specialty is training men and use of the sword is legendary. Tor excepts the invitation by Angus MacDonald The most powerful Chief in the Highlands to attend a war counsel meeting. When Tor declines to become apart of the 12 Highland Guard, he is set up by one of the council members Andrew Fraser. Fraser has brought his two daughters Beatrix and Christina with him to the meeting. He makes his younger daughter Christina get in bed with Tor while he is sleeping. Fraser and others discover her there in a most compromising position with Tor.. This is a very erotic story. All the sex scenes which are aren't many but are very well written and tasteful. After negotiations with MacDonald and the promise of peace for his clan and great wealth and lands he agree to train the other 11 men for 3 months. Christina and her sister are very rich heiress. Beatrix wants to take the Veil and live her life dedicated to God. The story centers around Christina marrying Thor. She tries everything she knows to make him love her. But every time she tries to help him it results in her making bad choices and causing more problems. There is a traitor who is passing on information to Tors enemies and enemies of The Bruce. The person is easy enough to figure out. This story is very accurate for the period. Rich in its developed multi layered characters. The story is fast paced and exciting and very sensual and romantic. I like all the characters and I look forward to reading the other 11 Highland Guards stories. I Highly Recommend The Chief

cool story. The narrarator tho.

I'm not very picky over narrarator, but wao, I've never heard someone sooooo bad. He made the sexy scenes monotone. The war cry and exiting moments completely flat. It was so very unemotional as to be funny. My brain was dubbing over the narrarator automatically correcting him like "yeah ok this is what it probably sounds like ".

This is the very first narrarator I've actually complained about. He is better suited to a meditation mantra than a Scottish romance.

Great story but the narrator definitely not great

Would you consider the audio edition of The Chief to be better than the print version?

yes

What other book might you compare The Chief to and why?

I love all the highlander books - they have a great history to them. I love to hear the end of the book where they tell us how the story was originated or that the families / clans are real but the "names were changed to protect the innocent"

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Oh gosh - it was horrible how he would pause where there should be a pause - there were long breaks in areas that should have flowed smoothly. His narration was definitely lacking. I could get used to his tone but the rest just ruins it. It's a great story just bad narration.
